Sylvia Jean Cecil Bullock, 69
Sylvia Jean Cecil Bullock, age 69 of Howardstown, died early Friday morning at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville. She was born August 6, 1941 to the Late Alfred and Patricia Savetski Cecil, and her adoptive parents Linn (Jake) and Elizabeth Stiles Howard.   She was a life long member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church and a former Choir director of her Church. She was a retired secretary at AmeriGas in New Haven Ky.

Sylvia is survived by her Husband, Tom Bullock and (2) daughters Laura (Hobie) Huff of Howardstown, and Susan French of Summersville.; (1) brother, Uriel Cecil of College Park, MD.; (9) grandchildren also survive. 

The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Monday April 18th at the St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Howardstown with Fr. Ken Fortener as celebrant.Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm until 8 pm Sunday and again at 9 am on Monday at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven,   A prayer service will be held at 6 pm on Sunday by Deacon  Eddie Hutchins at the Funeral Home.

William  Robert "Billy" Price Jr., 49
William Robert “Billy” Price Jr. 49, formerly of Culvertown, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Billy was born and raised in Culvertown Ky  by the late William Robert “Tarbaby” and Muzetta Norman Price. He was a former employee of Go Chevrolet in Danville as a mechanic and a Baptist by faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents and (2) brothers Joseph Timothy and Mark Elliott Price. 

Billy is survived by the love of his life, Mary Russell of Stanford Ky and her (3) children, Jesse, Keith and Sara Russell, and 2 grandchildren.  (3) sisters; Debbie Smith of Bardstown, Patty Johnson of Raywick, and Connie Price of New Hope. (1) Brother, Donnie Price of Boston Ky. Aunts, uncles and many Nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will begin at 2 pm till 8 pm Saturday and again at 9:00 am on Sunday at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven. 

The Funeral Service will be at 2 pm Sunday April  3, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in New Haven with Bro. Darrell Goodlett presiding.
 
 

Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in New Haven.

 

LaVerne Snellen Boone

LaVerne Snellen Boone, a long-time resident of New Haven, Kentucky, died Friday January 28th, 2011. LaVerne was a devout Catholic, a devoted wife and mother, an avid nature lover, antique collector and enjoyed living in New Haven’s community among friends and her family.Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her husband, Harold, the father of her six children.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edna Rogers Snellen and Vernon Snellen; Sister Elizabeth; and brothers, Deward, Nolan and Junior. She is survived by her beloved husband, Harold; her daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Head; son, Mike and his four children Anna, Sarah, Amanda and Michael; Son , Pat and his wife Bettye Jo and their three children, Patrick, Therese and Erica; Daughter, Joan Boone , and her daughter Sarah; Son, John and his wife Diane; and son, Chris and his wife Kim and their two sons, Scott and Matthew; as well as her dear sister, Monica Duff, and her husband Buddy.  In addition, she is survived by five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral services will be held at 10 am Monday Jan 31, 2011 at the St Catherine Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Sunday Jan 30th, at 11:00 am -8 pm. With a prayer service at 5 pm at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.

 

Charles Daniel Gellhaus, 84
Rev, Charles Daniel Gellhaus, Age 84 Yrs. of Athertonville, community of Larue County died Friday Jan. 21, 2011 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.  He was a native of Jefferson County, a retired truck driver with 40+ years of service, a former pilot for the Civil Air Patrol,  U.S. Navy Veteran of WW-2, and was currently serving as Pastor of the Athertonville Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Arthur and Mammi Lee Williams Gellhaus, a grandson, William Fred “Billy” Hoback, (1) sister Nancy Lee Gellhaus, (3) brothers; John Gellhaus, Forest Gellhaus and William “Bill” Gellhaus.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Betty Jane Speed Gellhaus, (5) daughters, Elizabeth Lee Stine, Louisville; Sandra C. Johnson (Michael) Cox’s Creek, Ky.; Suzanna Hernnandez (Michael) Louisville, Theresa Jane Gellhaus, Athertonville, Tina Marie Skaggs (John) New Haven.  (2) Sons; Charles Daniel Gellhaus Jr. (Joyce) Buffalo, Ky., Dwight Edward Gellhaus, Athertonville. (23) Grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and one Great Great grandchild, (1) sister Mary Frances Straub and (1) brother Marvin Gellhaus, both of Louisville.

A former New Haven resident, Anna Mae Masterson 90, passed away Monday, December 27 at Springfield Nursing and Rehab Center in Springfield KY. Anna Mae was born in New Hope to the late Joseph Cleveland and Vienna Werner Hall. She was a member of the St. Catherine Catholic Church.  She worked at The Bardstown Sewing Factory and Nationwide Sewing Factory.

Along with her parents Anna Mae was preceded in death by her husband; Robert L. Masterson, (1) grand daughter; Tammy Masterson, (2) brothers; Joseph Anthony and Bernard Edward Hall, (1) sister; Lucille Hall, and a daughter in law; Rita Williamson Masterson. Anna Mae is survived by (1) daughter; Mary Ann (Victor Ivo) Boone, Bardstown, (3) sons; Joseph Robert (Lynn) Masterson, Granite City, IL, Daniel Edward (Delores) Masterson, Evansville, IN, Richard Charles Masterson, New Haven, (1) sister  Mary Catherine Richardson, New Haven (17) Grandchildren; and (33) great Grandchildren.

Thelma Mabel Newton, 87
Thelma Mabel Newton, age 87 of Bardstown passed December 22, 2010 at Flaget Memorial Hospital after several months of battling arterial circulatory pain and limb restrictions. She was born on October 6, 1923, and a Catholic by faith.  She was retired from Bartons Distillery, after 33 yrs. of service. 

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband; William Garland Newton, her parents; Fred and Vergie (Akridge) Powell, (1) sister; Mazel, (1) grandson; Mark, and (1) great great grandson; Noah. Her special companion of 23 years; Joe Lampkin. Mabel is survived  by (5) Daughters; Helen Walls and Wanda (Joe) Durbin, both of Bardstown, Patricia Ann (Jim) Hornback, Linda (James) Maggard, and Brenda (Junior) Meredith, all of Hodgenville. (3) Sons; Bill (Melissa) Newton, and John (Karen) Newton both of New Haven, Fred (Lisa) Newton of Elizabethtown. (17) Grandchildren, (26) great grandchildren and (1) Great great grandchild, and Margie (Bill) Wells, who was like a daughter to her.

Betty Jean Thompson Young, 66
Mrs. Betty Jean Thompson Young of Big Clifty, Ky formerly of Hodgenville and Gleanings, KY passed away Wednesday Nov. 10, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Ky at the age of 66 Years.  She was born May 12, 1944 in Marion County to the late Ben Simpson and Emma Stillwell Thompson, she was also preceded in death by 1 sister and 5 brothers.

She was a Homemaker and a Methodist by faith.  She is survived by her husband Willard Ray Thompson of Big Clifty, 1 sister Jane Gilpin of Campbellsville, KY and his companion and caregiver Lucy Jeanett Brown. Several Nieces, Nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral Services for Betty Jean will be conducted at 2PM Sunday Nov. 14th at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home, 324 East Center Street New Haven Ky, Bro. Della Mae Edlin Clemons, 87
A former  Lyons Station resident, Della Mae Edlin Clemons; died at Colonial Health and Rehab Center on Nov 7, 2010 at the age of 87. She and her husband JC, formerly owned and operated Mae & Jay’s Grocery in Lyons Station. She was a life long member of Rolling Fork Christian Church.She was preceded in death by her parents James Franklin and Mary Ruth Edlin, (3) sisters: Christine Roberston Vittitow, Leota Edlin and Martha Slack. (4) brothers: Joseph Gordon Edlin, George Lewis Edlin; Lonnie Edlin; Charles Robert “Bob” Edlin.She was survived by one brother, Owen Edlin, Columbia Tn, one sister Pauline Skaggs Pike, Louisville.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Thomas Walter Johnson, 84
84, of Roanoke, VA, peacefully breathed his last in the presence of family on Monday, November 1 2010 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Palliative Care Center, Salem, VA. He was born in New Haven, KY on November 4 1925 to the late Walter Dean (Squat) and Marie Johnson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Mary Cummins and Dolores Eisen and daughter Sondra Johnson McCorkle. A World War II veteran, he served in the Navy before a dedicated career with Limbach Company. Tommy and family settled in Roanoke in 1989 where he enjoyed retirement surrounded by great friends and family. Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Kathlynn Throop Johnson of Roanoke, VA; 3 daughters, Angela Johnson Beckner and spouse Barry of Roanoke, Cynthia Johnson Buxton and spouse William of Round Hill, VA, Paula Marie Brown and spouse Nick of Roanoke; 8 grandchildren, Thomas Beckner and partner Mauricio Ticas, Travis Beckner, Caitlin Buxton Raabe and spouse Ted, Peter Buxton, Samuel Buxton, Margaret Buxton, Matthew Brewer and fiance Lauren Soltas, Lydia Brewer; 1 great-granddaughter, Emily Louise Brewer. A lionhearted adventurer, Tommy made his home where his hard hat was. To many family, honorary family, friends and loved ones, he was a mentor, teacher and loyal father. A Howardstown resident, James Adolph Boone, Age 88 yrs passed away Friday October 15, 2010 at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown, Ky.  A life long resident of Howardstown, he was born May 12, 1922, to the late James Franklin Boone and Susie Mattingly Boone. 

He was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church in Howardstown, a farmer and retired employee from Bird & Son Manufacturing in Bardstown. He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army, after receiving a Purple Heart in World War II.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Alice Rita Spalding Boone, a son Joseph Michael Boone. (3) Sisters; Margaret Mary Hicks, Agnes Boone and Catherine Wine. (6) Brothers; Jimmy, Anthony, Delime, John, Louis and Rev. Lawrence Boone.

He is survived by his (3) daughters; Linda (Mike) Johnson, New Haven; Pam (John) Peterson, Bardstown; Lois (Joe) Hornback, Howardstown. Joseph Lee "Joe" Rogers, 41
Joseph Lee "Joe" Rogers, 41, Bardstown died suddenly of natural causes on September 17, 2010 at his residence.  He was born February 6, 1969 in Bardstown, Kentucky;  He was a graduate of Nelson County High School, and a graduate of UTI in Huston, TX in HVAC, and most recently employed by Center Stage Lighting in Bardstown.
Joe was an avid fisherman and could often be found around a campfire and sleeping outdoors.  He was  well-known for his love of cooking.  He was a skilled wood-carver and musician and hosted a weekly jam-session at his home for his many beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wesley and Juanita Allender and Gerald and Helen Rogers, and most recently his Aunt Bonita "Bonnie" Dearing.
Survivors include his parents, Gary and Joyce Rogers, two brothers, Allen and David Rogers, one sister, Rhonda Van Dyke and her husband Mitch , his niece, Chelsey Van Dyke, all of Bardstown; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins and a huge amount of caring friends.
The Funeral will be 11:00 am Tuesday at Greenwell Houghlin Northside Funeral Home with burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Deacon Sam Filiatreau to officiate.

A Howardstown resident, Anna Elizabeth “Libby” Brey Greenwell 83, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Colonial Health Care in Bardstown KY. Libby was born and raised in Howardstown Ky  by the late John and Josephine Nalley Brey. She was a former employee of Nationwide Uniform in Hodgenville with over 20 years of service, and a homemaker. She was a former member of the New Haven Senior Citizens and a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Howardstown.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her Husband Joseph Adrian Greenwell.  Margaret Mary Hicks, Age 90 yrs formerly of New Haven entered into eternal rest Friday Aug. 6, 2010 at her residence with her Loving family by her side.  She was born June 14, 1920 at Howardstown, Ky to the late James Franklin and Susie Mattingly Boone.  She was a Homemaker and Farmer and a member  of St. Vincent DePaul at Nazareth, KY and the Basilica of the St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown and a former member of St.Ann Church in Howardstown.  She was preceded in death by her husband James Harry Hicks, a daughter Patricia Thomas, a grandson Patrick Hall, (2) sisters, Agnes Boone, and Catherine Wine, (5) brothers, Louis Boone, Anthony "Soup" Boone, Rev. Lawrence Boone, John Boone, Delime Boone and James "Jimmy" Boone.

She is survived by (6) daughters, Joyce Gardner (Bob), Louisville; Barbara Hall, Bardstown; Annette Kute (Kenny), Bardstown; Sylvia Head (Lynn Beiswenger), Simpsonville;

Joseph David Ray Shoffner, 19
A New Haven resident, Joseph David Ray “Joe David” Shoffner age 19 died in an automobile accident on Tuesday August 3, 2010 Larue County.  He was born in Lebanon Ky, employed in the lawn service business, and a Catholic by faith.

Joe David is survived by his loving grandparents who raised him,  Ray and Margie Miles, New Haven. and (2) brothers; Cpl. James Dillon Shoffner; USMC, Camp Lejeune, NC; Jonathan Daniel Ball, New Haven. He is also survived by his mother Angela Gail Ball, his father and stepmother Crazy Horse and Joanie Shoffner.  (1) stepbrother, Mike Hall, (2) stepsisters Jill Hall and Wendy Cecil all of New Haven,  and several Aunts, Uncles, cousins  and friends.

A Louisville resident, Hazel Marie “Williamson” Murrell age 69 passed away Wednesday June 23, 2010.

Hazel was a daughter of the late Willard and Mary Helen Masterson Williamson.  She was Catholic by faith.  She was a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Hazel worked as a general clerk in hardware for over 30 years. 

Hazel is survived by her loving husband, Joe Murrell, (1) son Scott Williamson, Garland Texas; (1) daughter Diane Cascante, Newport News, Virginia. (3) step sons, Joey Murrell, Louisville Ky, James Murrell, Perryville, Ky, and Michael Murrell, Columbia, Ky. She is also survived by (4) sisters and (2) brothers ..

A New Haven  resident, Michael Rodney Edlin age 44 passed away Sunday June 13, 2010.Michael was a life long resident of  Nelson County, and the son of the late Biven Cylester and Zella Ruth Douglas Edlin. He was Catholic by faith. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and  (2) sisters; Sharon and Sonja Edlin (2) brothers; Timmy and Zacky Edlin.

A Nelsonville resident, Melvin Buford Norman age 63 passed away Wednesday June 9, 2010. Melvin was a life long resident of  Nelson County, raised  by the late Harry Thomas Norman and Dora O'Neal Norman. He was retired from GE after 35 years of service. He was a Baptist by faith. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and  (4) sisters  Muzetta Price, Pearl Walker, Beatrice Muncy  and Dora Norris. (2) brothers Tommy and Lloyd Norman. He survived by  (2) daughters Sabrina Hornback, and Christy Hardin both of Barstown. (1) son David Norman, New Haven, and  (7) grandchildren.

A New Haven  resident, Roy Linton Holbert age 79 passed away Friday May 28, 2010. Roy was a life long resident of  Nelson County raised in New Haven,  by the late James Roy and Margarete Shricliff Holbert. He was a former employee of Beams Distillery, and  a Farmer. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and a Catholic by faith. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and  (2) sisters  Flora McKern and Lucille Bohannon. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Percefull Holbert, one son Timothy "Tim" Holbert (Richena), also survived by  (2) sisters,  Lila Sims and Sue Salsman both of Bardstown, many necies and nephews.

David Martin Brady, 82
A Louisville resident, David Martin Brady age 82, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010, at his residence. David was born in Louisville, and raised in Nelsonville Ky  by the late Stephen and Mary Ione Parrish Brady. He was a veteran, and a former employee of Fort Knox as a Boiler operator in the maintenance department. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and  (1) brother Stephen C. Brady. (2) sisters Celesta Kennedy and Louise Vittitow and a niece Glenna Welch.  He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Joy Maysack Brady, (1) step son Bob “Amy” McDonald of Louisville, (3) step daughters  Kathy “Steve” Peyton, and Linda “Greg” Tompkins both of Louisville, Colleen “Jim” Kelley, Bagdad Ky, and (10) grandchildren. 

He is also survived by  (4) sisters Osie “Billy” Harper,  Shirley Hensley, Mary Beatrice May all of Elizabethtown, and Wanda Gilkey of New Haven. (1) brother Coleman Leo Brady of New Haven. Visitation will begin at 2 till 8 pm Tuesday the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven. The Funeral will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home with Brother Leon Chambers conducting the service. Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central at Fort Knox. 
 

 

Philip Ronald Nalley Sr, 58
A New Haven resident, Philip Ronald Nalley Sr. age 58, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Jewish Hospital.
Philip was born in Culvertown on  Sept. 3, 1951 to the late Joseph William Sr. and Elizabeth Carmen Greenwell Nalley. He was a former partner of 3N Basement Walls, a current owner of Philip Nalley Construction, and Nalley and Sons Basement Walls. He was Catholic by faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bobby Nalley and a sister Pamela Nalley.  He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Theresa Culver Nalley of New Haven, (2) sons Philip Ronald “Phil” Nalley, Alan Matthew Nalley, both of Culvertown (2) daughters  Angela Marie Nalley of Culvertown, and Mary Pamela “Pam”  Susanna Riggs of New Haven and (15) grandchildren. 

He is also survived by  (5) brothers, J.W., James Lewis, Frankie, Marty and Freddy Nalley. (6) sisters Rose Ann Cahoe, Kathleen Bowling, Bernadette Culver, Sheila Dones, Arlene Snellen and Karen Douglas.

Visitation will begin at 1 till 8 pm Tuesday the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven. With a prayer service at 5 pm.  The Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 am Wednesday at the St. Catherine Catholic Church, with a burial in the St. Thomas Cemetery.
 
 

 

Helen Virginia Ball, 94
Helen Virginia Ball Rogers, 94, Culvertown, died peacefully March 31, 2010 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born May 5th, 1915 and for several years lived in Fairfield, KY.  She had lived in Culvertown for the past 72 years and was the oldest parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church.

Her life was devoted to making a warm home for her family.  She loved flowers, sewing, quilting and needlecraft, was an excellent cook and loved dancing and music, especially the fiddle playing by her husband.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Gerald Ignatius Rogers, Sr.; her parents, William Francis Ball, Sr. and Sophia Agnes Hall Ball, and five brothers, Bertel Ball, Coahran Ball, Lincoln Ball, Leo Ball and William Francis Ball, Jr.
Survivors include six daughters, Mary Virginia (Ronnie) Popham and Linda Carol (Dan) Mullikin both of Louisville, Ruth Ann (Barron) Haley of Rio Rancho, NM, Dr. Wanda Joan Rogers (Walt) Larson of Washington MO, Mary Bernadine  Rogers (Robert) Dyer, Jr. Prospect, KY and  Elizabeth “Bettyâ€? (Larry) Heavrin, Lake Arrowhead CA;  one son, Gerald Ignatius, Jr. “Garyâ€? (Joyce) Rogers, Bardstown; ten grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, John Wetzel (Lucita) Ball; a sister, Mary Ruth Ball Greenwell; a sister-in-law, Norma Lou Ball Ballard, and over a 100 nieces and nephews. 

The funeral service will be held 10 AM on Sat., April 3, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Church, Culvertown, with the burial in St. Thomas Cemetery near Bardstown. The Rev. Mark Hamilton will officiate. Visitation will be Friday April 2, from 2 to 8 pm, at the Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven, KY.

Joseph Donald Gunning, 92
A New Haven resident, Mr. Joseph Donald “Don” Gunning, age 92, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Hardin memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown after a brief illness.

Don was born in Coon Hollow near New Hope in Nelson County on August 30, 1917 to the late James Edward and Sarah Ellen Hall Gunning. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of  World War II serving in the 63rd infantry an was enjoying his retirement from a successful entrepreneurial career in timber, liquor, retail and farming. Don was an avid outdoorsman and very active in wildlife management activities on his Larue County property. He was Catholic by faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, James Kennedy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth A. Hayden Gunning of New Haven, his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Mark Krajewski of Shepherdsville, a son and daughter-in-law, Michael “Mick” and Susan Gunning of New Haven, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 4pm Saturday from the Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home, 324 E. Center St. New Haven, KY. Mr. Gunning was cremated and his final resting place will be on his farm in Larue County.

Visitation will begin at 1pm Saturday at the funeral home.
 

 

Margaret Cecilia Ray Clan, 82
A New Hope resident Margaret Cecilia Ray Clan, Age 82 Yrs. died Thursday Feb. 6, 2010 at Springview Hospital at Lebanon, KY.  She was born June 7, 1927 in Nelson County to the late Jason and Fannie Masterson Ray, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lincoln "Mousie" Clan, 1 sister Lucille Carter, 3 brothers, J.R. Ray, Rayfield Ray and Martin "Babe" Ray. 

She was a retired employee of Jim Beam Distillery at Clermont, KY with over 30 years of service in the Bottling House, a homemaker and a member of St. Vincent de Paul  Catholic Church. She is survived by 4 daughters, Mary Norris, Eva Newton, both of New haven, Bonnie Carney of Springfield, Barbara Brady of Loretto, KY, 1 son, Joseph Clan of New Haven, 1 sister, Helen Carter and 1 brother, Bobby Ray both of New Haven, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, February 8th from St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in New Hope, Ky with Fr. Ken Fortener officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may visit the family from 11am until 8pm Sunday and from 9am until 10:30 am Monday. A prayer Service will be Sunday evening at the funeral home.
 

 

Carrey Lou Dickerson, 35
Carrey Lou Dickerson, 35, New Haven Ky., died at her residence on Wed., Jan. 20, 2010. She was born in Lebanon Kentucky, and was employed as an Administrative Assistant at Network Reserve in Elizabethtown. She was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Kingdom Hall Hodgenville.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Brown and Grace Mattingly, and Benedict Joseph Peterson Sr.

Survivors include her husband Martin and a son, Patrick Dickerson both of New Haven Ky.   Her mother Clara Elizabeth Mattingly Peterson, of Lebanon.  Her father and step mother, Benedict Joseph Jr. and Bessie Peterson, of Lebanon. Two sisters, Debra Lynn Calvin, Chillicothe, Oh. and Elissa Dawn Meeks, Lebanon.

A funeral Service will be held at the Chapel of the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Sunday Jan. 24, with burial to follow in the St. Catherine Cemetery in New Haven. Congregation Elder, Arlie Bradley to preside over the service. 

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Saturday  and after 10:00 am Sunday until time of service at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.
 

 

Roger Dale Jackson, 56
Roger Dale Jackson, 56, of Bardstown, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at his residence. 

He is survived by a daughter, Hannah Jackson, and a son, Eric Jackson, both of Bardstown; five sisters, Henrietta Smith of Readyville, Tenn., Virginia Rucker of Gleanings; Norma Down, Patricia Curtsinger and Levita Chesser, all of Bardstown; two brothers, Danny Jackson of Boston, Ky., and Freeman Jackson of Bardstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

The funeral is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rolling Fork Baptist Church in Boston with Brother Bruce Nichols officiating. 

Burial will be in the church cemetery. 

Visitation is after 3 p.m. today at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven, and from 11 a.m. Wednesday until time of service at the church. 
 

 

Gary Francis Morley, 56
A New Haven resident, Gary Francis Morley, 56 years of age.  Died Friday, Oct. 30 th at his residence. He was born to the late John and Eleanor Margaret Munson Morley.  He was a farmhand for Bowling Homestead.
He was  Catholic by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Vincent Morley.

 He is survived by (5) sisters: Sharon Shackleford, Yarnell AZ; Mary Gutierrez, Phoenix AZ; Judy Roush, Bardstown KY; Ellen Sprague, and Deloris Morley both of Seminole AL. (6) brothers: Clifford Morley, Yarnell AZ; Joe and Jim Morley, both of Phoenix AZ;   Pat Morley Nelsonville; Jay and Charles Anthony Morley both of New Haven.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday November 18  at the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church with Father Ken Fortener officiating.   Burial will be in the St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery in New Hope.

William "Bill" Holton, 73
William "Bill" Holton, 73, of New Haven passed away peacefully October 17, 2009 at his residence. Bill was the owner of New Haven Sanitation, B&B Sanitation, and Kisco.  He was a Farmer and the owner of the Cream Station in New Haven.  Bill passed on to those that loved him, honesty, integrity, love and compassion.  He will be missed by all of those that he had a impact upon during his life. 

He was preceded in death by his Father, Ervin Holton, his Mother Layian Dennison Holton. He is survived by his loving wife Gertrude (Allen) Holton of 41 years.  Two daughters Kathy (Ronnie) Vogel and Cindy (David) Hill and seven Grandchildren.  Along with his sister, Pat Asborno. 

The visitation will be at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.  Visitation will begin Monday, October 19, 2009 at 12:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. Again on Tuesday, October 20, with the service being held at 2:00p.m. at the New Haven Baptist Church.  Expressions of

A New Haven resident, Nola Christine Burgess Elliott, 84  years of age.  Died Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Sunrise Manor Health Care in Hodgenville.  She was born in Bledsoe County TN to the late William Arthur & Lena Rose Holt Burgess.  She was a Homemaker.

She was a member of College Heights United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown.

 She is survived by a Husband of 66 years, Kenneth W. Elliott,  2 sons: Dan Elliott New Haven, David Elliott Prospect, Ky. 1 sister: Jewel Allen, Boston  KY .  2 half brothers and 4 half sisters, step Mother: Debbie Burgess Cleveland TN, 5 Grandchildren and 3 great Grandchildren 

Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 PM Friday Oct. 16  at the Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home New Haven,  Bro. Charles Hatfield officiating.   Burial will be in the Kentucky Central Veterans Cemetery, in Radcliff KY.

Charles Lincoln "Charlie" Greenwell, 65

  Charles Lincoln “Charlie “ Greenwell, age 65, Bardstown, died Thursday July 23 at his residence.

He was a retired employee of General Electric. 

He was preceded in death by his father James Woodrow Greenwell and a brother Michael Kevin Greenwell. 

Survivors include his daughter, LeeAnn Greenwell, Makanda Illinois; his son and wife Charles “Chuck” Greenwell and Jen Simpson, granddaughters Sabra Greenwell and Elysia Frank, Ft. Thomas, Ky. His Mother, Mary Ruth Ball Greenwell, Culvertown; (10) sisters, Leora Doyle, Birch Run Michigan; Louise Brussell, Beverly Keith, Hazel Greenwell-Seward, Mary Beth Higdon Culvertown; Carolyn Greenwell , Mary Ellen McCoy, Tammi Nalley ,Coletta Akin, New Haven; LaDonna Barber, Midland Texas. (5) brothers Kenny Greenwell, Louisville; Warren Greenwell, Minot North Dakota; Dwight Greenwell, Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Eric Greenwell Bloomfield, and Dick Greenwell, Hodgenville . Best friend, TJ Spaulding, Mt. Washington; Former wives; Claudia Riddle, Simpsonville, Ky; Susie Greenwell, Clarksville, Indiana.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m, with a prayer service at 5:00 pm, Sunday July 26, at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home, New Haven. 

Cremation to follow, with interment at St. Thomas Cemetery at a later date.

 

Dorothy Alleyne Hicks Porter, 88

 A New Hope resident, Dorothy Alleyne Hicks Porter 88 years of age.  Died Monday July 20th at ther residence.  She was born in Nelson County KY to the late Leonard and Anna Belle Seward Hicks.  She was homemaker, and a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in New Hope. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son Stephen Porter, one grandson Stuwart Lansing Porter son of Mike and Sue Porter. Three sisters, Norma Colvin, Inez Brown, and Nancy Brennun.  Four brothers Fred Hicks, Jesse Hicks, Howard Hicks and Ernie Hicks.

She is survived by two daughters, Denise (Larry ) Hicks, Bardstown, Sheila (Emmett) Greenwell, New Hope.  One son, Mike (Sue) Porter of Elizebethtown.  One sister, Shirley Ann Allgeier, Louisville .  Seven Grand Children and 5 Great grand Children.

Visitation will be held at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven from 6pm-9pm Wed. July 22, with a Memorial Service at 7pm with Deacon Eddie Hutchins officiating.

 

Billie Joyce Culver Thornsberry, 67
 

 Billie Joyce Culver Thornsberry, 67, New Haven, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. She was a homemaker, a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Culvertown, and retired from General Electric Appliance Park, Louisville. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Russell Thornsberry Jr.; her parents, William Leon and Eleanora Bryan Culver; and two sisters, Beverly Rogers and Faye Rogers. 

Survivor include three sons, Neal Thornsberry and Allen Thornsberry, both of New Haven, and Timmy Thornsberry, Mount Washington; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Zelma Rose “Snookie” Green, Bardstown, and Vanessa O’Bryan, Hodgenville; and two brothers, Ralph “Tinker” Culver and Derriell Culver, both of New Haven. 

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in St. Catherine Cemetery, New Haven. The Rev. Mark Hamilton will officiate. 

Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Friday at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home. 

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. 

Pallbearers are Joe Joe Rogers, Karl Culver, Troy O’Bryan, Shane Thornsberry, Nick Thornsberry, and Brian Thornsberry.

 

Bryan Allen Kennedy Sr, 94

 Bryan Allen Kennedy Sr., 94, New Haven, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at his daughter’s residence in New Haven. 

A native of LaRue County, he was a member of Rolling Fork Christian Church, Lyons Station, and a construction worker with Carpenters Union Local 576 for 30 years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clay and Almeda Barnes Kennedy; his first wife, Bessie Lafollette Kennedy; his second wife, Mary Castile Kennedy; four sons, Bryant Allen Kennedy Jr., Cecil Kennedy, Kenneth Jewell Kennedy and Jesse Lee Kennedy; two sisters, Iva Devers and Lena Bowles; and four brothers, Roy Kennedy, Marion Kennedy, Leo Kennedy and Gilbert Kennedy. 

Survivors include a daughter, Imogene Kennedy, New Haven; a son, Delmont Kennedy, New Haven; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. 

The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9th at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Hanley Edlin officiating. Burial will be in Edlin Creek Cemetery, LaRue County. 

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday July 8th at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home, New Haven.

 

Helen Miracle Skaggs, 68

A New Haven resident, Helen Miracle Skaggs was 68 years of age. She died Tuesday, June 30 at Woodland Terrace in Elizabethtown.  She was born in Bell County, KY to the late Hassie Wilder Miracle and Hilary Miracle.  She was a former employee of New Haven School, Holiday Inn and Nazareth Mother House as a cook.

She was a member of Rolling Fork Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter Betty Jo Miracle and a Brother Dallas  Miracle.

She is survived by three daughters, Connie Reiter of New Haven, Debra Coursey and Marie Morgan both of Hodgenville.  One son, Homer Miracle Jr. of Hodgenville.  One sister Oveda McKinley of Hodgenville and 2 brothers Clarence Miracle and Victor Miracle both of Loveland OH.  Seven Grand Children and 5 Great grand Children.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday July 3rd at the Rolling Fork Baptist Church, New Haven, Bro. Bruce Nichols officiating.   Burial will be in the Church cemetery.

Melvin Blain Kennedy, 50

A New Haven resident, Melvin Blane Kennedy, Age 50 years. Died Thursday June 25, 2009 at his residence.

Melvin was a member of the Rolling Fork Christian Church at Lyons Station, he was an employee of BF Harned Farms, a former employee of the old New Haven Sanitation.  He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Gilbert Walton and Margaret Inez Crady Kennedy.

He leaves to cherish his memory 5 sisters, Geraldine Kennedy, Wanda Kennedy and Patricia "Patty" Hanneken all of New Haven, Susan Locklin and Audrey Aulbach both of Elizabethtown. 2 brothers, Jewell Kennedy and Roger Kennedy both of New Haven.  8 nieces and nephews and 3 great nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be aftter 3:00 pm Sunday June 28th, at the Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven and after 9:00 am Monday June 29th, at the Rolling Fork Christian Church in Lyons Station until time of Funeral service at 11:00 am.  Brother Tim Underhill officiating.  Burial to follow in the Edlin Creek Cemetery, in Larue County.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.
