Clarence Edwared "Buddy" Gray, 89

A Taylorsville resident Mr. Clarence Edward "Buddy" Gray  age 89 passed away at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville on August 14, 2016. Mr. Gray was born in Jefferson County , Ky the son of the late Clarence Clay  and Anna Katherine Montgomery Gray.  He was employed by the Pennsylvania Run Cemetery in Louisville , Kentucky where he served there as the sexton and was a member of the Penn Run Presbyterian Church in Louisville.

Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Ruth Pearl Lanham, Cora Elizabeth Schaffer, Jessie Zarecki, and Bessie Grigoleit. He is survived by his wife of 72 years Vernia Irene Coulter Gray of Taylorsville, Ky., his daughters Nancy Thomas of Taylorsville, Ky and Barbara Gray of Shepherdsville, Ky., his two sons James (Debbie) Gray of Taylorsville, Ky and Michael Gray of Shepherdsville, Ky. 11 Grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren also survive.

Kathryn Elizabeth Sweasy, 80

A Taylorsville resident, Mrs. Kathryn Elizabeth Sweasy, age 80, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in Baptist Health Louisville. She was the former Kathryn Rogers, born November 22, 1935 in Spencer County to the late Frank and Lucy Ayer Rogers. She was a retired employee of General Electric with 25 years of service, and was a member of Highview Baptist Church.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Carl T. Sweasy, and a brother, Frank “Buddy” Rogers, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Pat (H.G.) Hagan of Louisville, Karen (David) Young of Mt. Washington, her son, Wayne Sweasy of Mt. Washington, 2 sisters, Eleanor Stevens, Mary Lipginski, 1 brother, Robert H. (Vicki) Rogers, all of Taylorsville, 2 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and her special caregiver, Darlene Dennison.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kathryn Elizabeth Sweasy will be Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville. Interment will be in Big Spring Cemetery. James Belwood Sparrow, 75

Mr. James Belwood Sparrow age 75 of San Antonio, Texas formerly of Taylorsville, Ky passed away July 2, 2016 at Meridian Cave at Grayson Square in San Antonio.  He was born the son of the late Olus and Verna Hall Sparrow in Mt. Eden, Ky.  He was a former employee of General Electric Appliance Park and worked on the assembly line for over 28 ½ years.

Mr. Sparrow was preceded in death by his parents, his son William Gerald Sparrow, and sisters Rae Richardson and Mae McCarty. He is survived by sisters Jean Hagan and her husband Earl, and Ethel McCarty and her Husband Roy: five children amd their significant others, Robert and Sarah Sparrow, Earlene and Ken Dice, Chuck and Debbie Sparrow, Monnie and Bobby Marshall, Connie and Chris Morris: 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Thelma Darlene Jewell, 69

Mrs. Thelma Darlene Jewell age 69 of Taylorsville, Ky passed away on June 27, 2016 at the University of Louisville Hospital.  She was born the daughter of the late Robert Newton  and Ruby Wheeler Davis in Carroll County Kentucky.  Darlene was a homemaker, loved her family and friends and was a member of the Grace Chapel Church of Taylorsville.

She was preceded by her companion Delbert Eugene Norton, her parents , sisters Anna Mae Donnelly, Dorothy Tucker, Madeline Davis,  and brothers Joe, Jimmy, and Lloyd Davis. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Donna Milburn(Pete) of Cox’s Creek, Ky., Mae Bunch(Wesley) of Springfield , Ky., one son Dewayne "Booger" Jewell (Rose) of Taylorsville, Ky., sisters Helen Wright(J.T.) of Carrollton, Ky., Madge Lloyd (Darrell) of Sanders, Ky., and Donna Skirvin (Frankie) of Madison, In., 15 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren also survive.

Larry Kellems, 67

A Taylorsville resident, Mr. Larry Kellems age 67, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at his residence. He was born October 6, 1948 in Meade County. He was a retired employee of General Electric with 37 years of service, a former employee of UPS, a United States Army Veteran, and a member of the Taylorsville Community Church.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Walls Kellems, 3 daughters, Vanessa (Paul) Whitaker, Michelle (Ken) Rakentine, both of Taylorsville, Tammy (Chris) White of Union, KY., a son, Jeremy Kellems of Richmond, VA., his parents, William L. and Eileen Bennett Kellems, Jr. of Radcilff, a sister, Margaret Matthews of Brandenburg, KY., a brother, Craig (Diana) Kellems of Elizabethtown, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

J.B. Davis, 84

 Fisherville resident, Mr. J.B. Davis, age 84, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in Signature Healthcare in Taylorsville. He was the son of the late Jess Madison and Jettie Langfort Davis, born September 25, 1931 in Oldham County. He was a former employee of Premier Plastics.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Davis.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Dorothy (Dan) Barnett of Elk Creek, Mary Davis, Edith Jane (John) Jones of Taylorsville, 3 sons, Bruce  Davis, Sammy Davis, both of Fisherville, Jess Allen Davis of Louisville, 2 sisters, Sarah Stump of Louisville, Lillian Smith of Eminence, KY., 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Mary Etta Mobley, 49

Mary Etta Mobley age 49 a resident of Lawrenceburg and native of Spencer County passed away at her residence on June 9, 2016. She was born the daughter of the late John Hollis and Frances Marie Huffman Mobley in Shelby County , Ky.  She was a graduate of Spencer County High School Class of 1985 and was owner and operator of Perez Lawn Service, and a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Ms. Mobley was preceded in death by her parents and a son Andrrew Chesser. She is survived by her children Michael Chesser of Briar Ridge, Ky., her daughter Amber Marie Mobley (Bryan Rogers) of Sulfur, Ky., her companian, James Wilfong of Lawrenceburg, KY, a sister Robin Hooper and her companion Bobby Milburn of Mt. Eden, Ky., one brother Ricky Mobley (Debbie) of Frankfort, KY., grandchildren Chloe, Layla, and Scott, several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Jackie Hall, 81

Mr. Jackie Hall age 81 of Taylorsville passed away at Signature Healthcare .  He was born the son of the late Ivory and Ollie Finn Hall in Hazard, Ky.  He was a retired employee of General Electric after 40 years of service and was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Briar Ridge. 

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his uncle Denver Hall. Mr. Hall is survived by his wife Irene Goodlett Hall of Taylorsvillle his son Jack Ivan Hall of Louisville, daughter Doris Warren (David) of Louisville, step sons David Bates (Pamela) of Lawrenceburg, and Keith Bates(Kelly) of Panama City , FL., one uncle O’Brien Hall, two grandsons John D. Warren (Sarah) of Shelbyville, and Michael K. Warren of Louisville,Ky., five step-grandchildren, and three great-step-grandchildren also survive.

Visitation and funeral services for Mr. Jackie Hall were held Monday June 6, 2016  with Brother Greg Taylor officiating.  Interment was in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.  Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.



 
Isaac "Ike" Irvine, 87

Mr. Isaac "Ike" Irvine age 87 passed away at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville on May 14, 2016.  He was born the son of the late Isaac Irvine Sr. and Bernice Brown Irvine in Spencer County,Ky.  He enjoyed fishing and was known as one of the best fish fryers around.  He participated in many community events with his talent.  Mr. Irvine was a former employee of General Electric where he retired after over 40 years of service.  He held many positions in the Taylorsville community including Senior Deacon for 40 years of the Taylorsville Second Baptist Church where he was a life long member.  Other positions included the Spencer County Fair Board, Meals on Wheels, and Spencer County Board of Adjustments, and was a member of the Bardstown Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Irvine was preceded in death by his parents, his son Thomas Irvine, and step-son Michael Mason. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Betty Bowen Irvine of Taylorsville, his daughters Patricia Murphy (Greg) of Taylorsville, Deborah Kirk of Louisville, Brenda Haines of Louisville, Lynn Lewis (Ronald) of Louisville, a son Douglas Irvin of Lexington, a step-son Maurice Mason Jr. (Rita) of Richmond, sisters Bertha Mason of Louisville, Irene Walker of Shelbyville, Mary Avery of Taylorsville, brothers Bobby Irvine(Dru) of Shelbyville, William Murphy (Norma) of Shelbyville. Fourteen grandchildren, Twenty-Eight great grandchildren, and Five great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Patricia Ruth Morris, 65

A Louisville resident, Ms. Patricia Ruth Morris, age 65, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 in Signature Healthcare in Taylorsville. She was the daughter of the late Reco and Aileen Keeling Morris, born May 13, 1950 in Nelson County. She was a resident of Signature Healthcare for 15 years where she attended the nursing home ministry.

She is survived by her cousin and guardian, Linda Goldstein of Louisville, and cousins, Ronald (Phyllis B.) Ingram of Taylorsville, Jeanett (John) Royal of Louisville, Ramona (Mike) Visse, of Louisville, William (Debbie) Ingram of Cox’s Creek, Larry (Phyllis) Ingram of Taylorsville, Lana (Bobby) Pyles of Simpsonville, as well as her extended family at Signature Healthcare.

Funeral services for Ms. Patricia Ruth Morris will be Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home, with Chaplains Susanne Priddy and Ann New officiating. Mr. Timothy Randall Capps age 46 of Cox's Creek, Ky passed away April 20, 2016 at Baptist Health Care in Louisville, Ky.  Mr. Capps was a self employed contractor, a member of  Valley View Baptist Church and also attended Cox's Creek Baptist Church. 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Lisa Hall Barrick Capps of Cox's Creek, KY.  His daughters Amanda Brook and Sophie Elizabeth Capps both of Dayton,OH.  One son Jesse William Capps of Louisville,Ky.  His parents Roy Randall and Wanda Norris Capps of Louisville,Ky. Sister

Mr. Elihu Gray age 67 passed away April 9, 2016 at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville.  He was born the son of the late Enoch and Elsie Caudill Gray in Clay County, Ky.  Mr. Gray was a former employee of Noble Metal Company in Shelbyville, Ky., and member of the Plum Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Mary Mitchell Gray of Taylorsville, his daughters Laura Whitehouse (Shannon) of Taylorsville, Miranda Travis (Corey) of  Taylorsville, sons Timmy Mitchell (Missy) of Taylorsville, Mark Gray (Melanie) of Taylorsville, Gregory Gordon and his companion Sherry of Louisville, sisters Judy Chesser(Marshall) of Taylorsville, Melissa McCauley (Rick) of Taylorsville, brothers Bill Gray(Joyce) of Taylorsville, Russell Gray of Taylorsville, 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren also survive.

Joseph William Cundiff, 86

Mr. Joseph William Cundiff age 86 passed away April 9, 2016 at Baptist Health in Louisville, Ky.  He was born the son of the late Miles and Mary Agnes Thornsberry Cundiff in Nelson County , Ky. Mr. Cundiff was  a retired employee of Taylorsville Country Mart after 19 years of  service.  He was a member of the Taylorsville Community Church  for 54 years and  proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a  Korean War veteran. 

Besides his parents Mr. Cundiff was preceded in death by his son Joey, and grandchildren Joey and Paige Davis, and several  siblings. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Mattie Stearman Cundiff of Taylorsville, his daughters Lavonna Stearman  of Fredericksburg, In., Cynthia Sweat of Magnolia, Ky, one son Ronald Cundiff (Debra) of Taylorsville,Ky., one sister Agnes Crain of Hodgenville, Ky., 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren also survive.

Evan Keeling Jr. 

Mr. Evan Keeling Jr. of Little Union passed away April 7, 2016 at his residence after a long illness surrounded by family and friends.

He was born the son of the late Evan Keeling Sr. and Annabelle Gibbs Keeling in Washington County , Ky. Mr. Keeling was a graduate of Louisville Technical College where he received his degree as a robotic specialist. He retired from St. Joseph Children's Home as a maintenance technician as well as being  long time farmer.  Evan was a member of the Christian Crossings Life Center (CCLC) of Taylorsville. 

Mr. Keeling was preceded in death by his grandson James Todd Keeling , his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Donna Kay Bowman Keeling of Little Union ,Ky. his daughter Amy Keeling, sons Timmy Keeling(Nina), Stevie Keeling(Stacy), also of  Little Union.  Grandchildren Amber(Derek), Colby, Brett(Jessica), Justin(Caitlyn), Ashley, Hayley, James, Kevan, and Myles. Great-Grandchildren Kristian, Adyson, Wyatt, Hadley, Vanley, Anniston, Evelyn, and 7 sisters also survive.

Joseph Lloyd Phillips, 57

Mr. Joseph Lloyd Phillips age 57, of Taylorsville  passed away March 26, 2016 at Baptist Health in Louisville, Ky after a long illness.  He was a loving husband, son, father, brother and grandfather, and good friend.  A former employee of Johnson Controls of Shelbyville.  A dedicated Christian and member of the New Hope Church of God of Eminence, Ky.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his father Joseph Lloyd Phillips Sr. and two sisters Laura and Paula Couch. He is survived by his wife Cheri DeRay Phillips of Taylorsville,Ky., his daughter Bonnie Warren(Casey) of Mt. Washington, KY., his mother Lula Briley and brother John Phillips both of Port Royal, Ky.  Two grandchildren Alaline and Jacob Bishoff of Taylorsville,Ky., and close friends Harry White and  Patty Marshall.

Rozella Waldridge, 68

Mrs. Rozella Waldridge age 68 passed away March 21, 2016 at Signature Health Care  of Taylorsville.  She was born in  Spencer County Kentucky to the late Elmer Clay and Eliza Ann Curtsinger Goodlett.  She was a homemaker and attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Taylorsville.

Mrs. Waldridge was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings, and other family members.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years William "Billy" Waldridge of Taylorsville.  Her children Jeanetta Rose Waldridge of Taylorsville and William Clayton Waldridge of Eminence, Ky. A brother Jessie "Jake" Goodlett of  Taylorsville. One half sister Alice Rose Gebhart (James) of New Albany, In . Several other nieces, nephews, and family members also survive.

Funeral  services were held March 24, 2016 at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home of Taylorsville with Brother Chad Goodlett officiating. Interment was in Valley Cemetery.  Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.



 
Sue Goode Reynolds, 69

Mrs. Sue Goode Reynolds age 69 of Crestwood, Ky passed away  March 23, 2016  University of Louisville Hospital, Louisville, Ky.  She was the daughter of the late Hubert  and Janet Canter Goode born In Casey County, Ky.  She was a former employee of Katyama of Shelbyville. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Scott Lewis.

She is survived by her companion Gerald Hood of Crestwood, Ky, her daughters Karen Tindle (Mike) of Taylorsville, Regina Dile (William) of Bardstown, a sister Reda Barr of Bardstown, and two brothers Joe Goode (Selina) of Taylorsville, and John Goode(Mary) of Taylorsville.  10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also survive.

Tabitha Lynn McKinley King,  40

A Taylorsville Resident, Tabitha Lynn McKinley King, age 40, passed away on March 12, 2016 at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville.  She was the Daughter of Russell and Marlene Cranmer and the Mother of Austin and Derrick "DDK" King all of Taylorsville. 

Tabitha was a Graduate of Spencer County High School Class of 1994 .  She worked for many years at the Spencer County Dispatch Office until it was moved out of the County..   Her greatest Love was her Family and Friends and most of all her 2 Son's.  She tirelessly traveled with her family to both her boy's baseball games and to Derrick's corn hole tournaments where he was ranked #1 in world .  She also attended Taylorsville Community Church. 

Tabitha was preceded in death by her Grandparents, Bobby & Goldie McKinley, Leroy & Myrtle King, James and Anna Pearl Cranmer, Her Aunt Martina Hilbert, Aunt Liz Hance & Uncle Earl. 

She is survived by Sisters; Becky Manning (Jason) of Taylorsville  and Ericka Ritter of Louisville; Brother Russell "Tin Pin" Cranmer (Crystal) of Taylorsville; Her Companion Jason Smith;  The Father of her Children, Robbie King (Tammy); Aunt Lina Rogers (Bruce) and Cousins Matthew Hilbert and Brooke McIntosh (Jacob) all of Taylorsville.  Aunts Rose Barnes, Martha Goodlett & Janet McClease all of Shelbyville and  In-laws Dollie & Buster Hart and  Howard & Helen King.  She is also survived by 7 nephews and 1 niece.

Linda Metts, 55

Mrs Linda Metts age 55 passed away March 13, 2016  at  Baptist Hospital in Louisville, Ky.  She was a member of Southeast Christian Church and was employed by UPS  in Louisville,Ky. for 18 years working in the aircraft records  department where she made many friends.

Mrs. Metts was preceded in death by her father James Metts , her paternal grandparents Ruth Jones and James Metts Sr. and her maternal grandparents Robert and Maggie Reynolds.

She is survived by her mother Ada Metts of Taylorsville, and her three sons Brandon(Desiree) Metts of Lexington, Michael Metts and his companion Noel of Louisville, and Jaimes Metts and his companion Brittney of Louisville.  Three granddaughters Penelope, Esther, and Adeline Metts all of Lexington also survive.

A Memorial service is planned for Thursday March 17, 2016 from 10 A.M til Service time at 12:Noon. At the  Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home with Sister Mavis Bennett officiating.  A private interment at Valley Cemetery will follow after the memorial service. Judy Day Bissinger, 74

A former Taylorsville resident Mrs. Judy Day Bissinger age 74 passed away peacefully at her residence on March 9, 2016 in Clive, Iowa. She had a visitation on March 14, 2016 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in West Des Moines, Iowa and funeral service on Tuesday March 17, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Clive, Iowa. 

Judy was born January 19, 1942 to Sara (Allen) and W.S.Day in Taylorsville, Ky.  She graduated from the University of Kentucky with her Bachelor’s Degree in English with the goal to teach.  But while traveling to Cape Cod she met Paul Bissinger and  the couple celebrated their 51 years of marriage last year.  Judy was a devoted homemaker, mother, and grandmother.  She loved to cook and bake for her grandchildren and enjoyed taking them on various outings around town.  The family also enjoyed traveling as a group and most recently explored Disney and Hawaii.  In her spare time Judy was a devoted member of the Republican Party, volunteering and working on many campaigns the past 35 years.  In addition, she was appointed by former President George Bush to the Advisory Committee on Cemetery and Memorials for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

She is survived by her mother Sara Day; husband Paul; sons; David(Meg) and Peter (Chris); and her grandchildren, Joe, Mike, Luke, Hayden,Henry, and Ben. Judy was preceded in death by her father and son, John Paul.

Judy will have visitation in Taylorsville, Kentucky  on March 18, 2016 from 10 A.M. til funeral time at 11 A.M. at the Valley Cemetery Chapel with Brother Bob Sutton officiating.  Interment following the service at the Valley Cemetery.  The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Faith Lutheran Church of Clive, Iowa.  The Taylorsville , Kentucky visitation, funeral and interment is intrusted to the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral  Home.



 
Rachel Frances McAllister Pinkston Price, 91 

Rachel Frances McAllister Pinkston Price was born in Spencer County, Kentucky on September 1, 1925. She passed from this world on March 3, 2016 at Baptist Healthcare in Jefferson County, Kentucky.

She was the daughter of the Late Henry and Susie Kelien McAllister.  She attended the First Baptist Church of Taylorsville in addition to her parents.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenny Price and 4 brothers, Jessie , Fred, Leonard & Wilmer McAllister & 2 sisters Gertie Armstrong & Henrietta Buttrey & 1 Great Grandson, Tylen Pinkston & 1st Husband Charles D. Pinkston Sr.  Her survivors include 2 sons Charles “David” Pinkston Jr. and Rickey W. Pinkston (Becky) both of Taylorsville , 5 Grand Children, Tiffany Pinkston Lawson (Scott), Lyle Pinkston (Jennifer), Ryan Pinkston (Jessica),  Natashia Pinkston Fairley (James) & Marcia Wolfe (Chris).  8 Great Grandchildren, Chase &  Caiden Lawson, Madelyn, Regan & Reed Pinkston, Yoid & Jacobi Gomez & McKenna Wolfe.  Her Husband Kenny’s Children,  Kenny, Phillip & Warren (Cathy Cockerell) Price & Jeannie Smitha all of Louisville.  She also leaves behind lots of loving Nieces & Nephews.

She worked in Taylorsville for several years.   She then worked in Louisville at Jerry’s & Denny’s Restaurants as a waitress for 39 ½ years and retired at the age of 87 in 2012.  Her hobbies were making Baskets & Painting Santa Claus Gourd’s.   Memorial Gifts can be made in her honor to The First Baptist Church of Taylorsville.

Geraldine Nation Waldridge, 74

A Taylorsville resident Mrs. Geraldine Nation Waldridge age 74 passed away peacefully at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville,Ky.  She was born the daughter of the late Floyd and Gleta Shelburne Nation in Shelbyville, Ky.

Mrs. Waldridge was a former employee of Christopher East Healthcare of Louisville,Ky.  She was a loving person and had a great compassion for her dog and cat.  She was a former resident of Christian Care Community in Taylorsville. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Leon Waldridge, her sisters Carol Bowles, and Phyllis Grasmick

Mrs. Waldridge is survived by her daughter Cathy Richardson (Darrell) of Taylorsville, Ky ., her sister Gail Hancock (Ronnie) of Fairdale, Ky, and two brothers Gilbert Nation(Patty) of Shepherdsville, Ky., and Gene Nation (Marilyn) of Taylorsville and one grandson Jonathan Crouch(Sabrina) of Taylorsville.

Marthy Jean Milburn, 60

A Taylorsville native Mrs. Marthy Jean Milburn age 60 passed away at Baptist Hospital in Louisville, Ky on January 10, 2016. Mrs. Milburn was born the daughter of the late William Ray and Dorothy Lee Nation Seabolt Carson in Shelbyville,Ky.  She was the owner and Operator of the Licensed Milburn Family Care Home of Taylorsville for the past 22 years. She was a former member of the  Open Door Christian Center of  Bloomfield, Ky. and was a current member of the The Bethesda Church of God of Shelbyville.  She loved her church and was truly a very loving and caring individual.

Mrs. Milburn is survived by her husband Clannon(C.W.) Milburn of Taylorsville, her daughter Tonia Elmore and her companion Jimmy Hiske of Taylorsvillle, one Grandson Dalton Elmore of Taylorsville, Step-daughters Laurinda Napier (Beauford) of Gauge ,Ky, Teresa Holland of Shelbyville, Ky., Step-sons Jay Milburn (Sally) of Defoe, Ky, Bradley Milburn (Angie) of Bagdad,Ky., Eight Step-grandchildren, and 11 Step-great-grandchildren.

A Louisville resident, Mr. Harry Arnold Goldstein, age 79, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015 in Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. He was the son of the late Philip and Marcella Weiland Goldstein, born May 31, 1936 in Louisville. He was a member of St. Michael Church of Louisville where he was also a member of the 3M Club, a United States Army Veteran, and was a member of the Kentucky Grocers Association, Inc. Mr. Goldstein began his career at the age of 9, delivering groceries on a pony during WWII, for his parents grocery store on Virginia Avenue in Louisville. He worked there until he went into the Army in 1959. He then came home and left the family business and managed a grocery store on Dixie Highway until he came to Taylorsville and bought the Little Giant Grocery Store in 1966. He also partnered with his brother Joe in 1974 and started the Key Market in Bardstown. He then built the new store, Foodland, in Taylorsville in 1986. He stayed there until the new Country Mart was built and opened in 2007, where he continued to work until his untimely death.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Goldstein.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Ingram Goldstein, a son, Matt (Angie) Goldstein of Louisville, step son, Kenneth Bruce Aubrey of Taylorsville, step daughter, Julie (Wayne) Lecompte of Mt. Washington, sisters, Joann Henry of Louisville, Eileen (Jim) Mitchell, and Dolores Snyder, both of Sellersburg, IN., his brother Joe (Rita) Goldstein of Bardstown, 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 5 step great-grandchildren also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Harry Arnold Goldstein will be celebrated Monday, January 4, 2016 at 1:00 pm from the Saint Michael Catholic Church, 3705 Stone Lakes Drive, Louisville, KY 40299. Fr. Dick Sullivan and Fr. Kenny Kamber will officiate. Interment will be in Valley Cemetery at Taylorsville. Glen Keith Curtsinger, 57

Mr. Glen Keith Curtsinger age 57 of Taylorsville passed away December 22, 2015 at Baptist Health in Louisville, Ky.  He was a true outdoorsman and loved wildlife.  An employee of the Kentucky Department of Highways, husband, father, and grandfather, son and brother who will be greatly missed by family , friends and co-workers.

Mr. Curtsinger was preceded in death by his father Leon Curtsinger.

He is survived by his mother Jean Curtsinger of Springfield, Ky., his wife Connie Nation Curtsinger of Taylorsville, daughters Crystal Burgin (Troy) of Taylorsville, Renee Burgin (Gary) of Cox’s Creek, Ky., Leann Perry (Rodney) of Willisburg, Ky.,  One son Jeremy Curtsinger (Erin) of Louisville,Ky., Three sisters  Elaine Lewis (Larry) of Willisburg, Ky. Peggy Humphrey (Scott) of Nelson County, and Patty Elliott (Dave) of Florence, Ky.  One brother Charles Curtsinger (Kathy)  of Springfield, Ky.   Eight grandchildren and one special God-Daughter  Kaylee Carney.

Bettie Carol Peach Cook, 68

A Bardstown resident, Ms. Bettie Carol Peach Cook, age 68, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015 in Colonial Health and Rehab in Bardstown. She was the daughter of the late James and Beulah Pearl Montgomery Peach, born October 20, 1947 in Anderson County. She was a retired employee of Florida Tile and attended Open Door Christian Church.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Riley and Emmett Cox.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Carolyn Cox, Jennifer (James) Seaton of Taylorsville, and Amy (Roger) Thomas of Lexington, a son, Danny (Dawn) Cox of Taylorsville, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Michael Anthony Willis Ponzi, 35

Mr. Michael  Anthony  Willis Ponzi age 35 passed away October 22, 2015 whiile working in Farmington West Virginia.  He was employeed by Core Trans Transportation of Somerset, Kentucky as a truck driver  and was a member of the Wakefield  Christian Church  and also served as a volunteer firefighter for Spencer County for 10 years.

Mr. Ponzi  is survived by his father Louis Anthony Ponzi and his wife Ann of Louisville, Ky., his mother Cynthia Underwood and her husband Don of Gravel Switch, Ky.  One brother Louis Anthony Ponzi II  and his wife Veronica of Louisville,Ky., Three Step Sisters: Sara Poole and her husband Barry of Cairo, Ga.  Leann Thornhill Bleuel and her husband Charles of Louisville, Ky., Emily Thornhill of Richmond , Va., Two Step Brothers, Donnie Underwood and his wife Tammy of Crossfield, Tn., and Curtis Lee Thornhill of Louisville, Ky.

Mr. Thomas Jefferson Curtsinger age 74 of Taylorsville, Ky passed away  October 4, 2015 at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville. Born the son of the late Herbert and Nellie Hardin Curtsinger in Spencer County ,Ky.   He was a former employee of Legatt and Platt Corporation of Simpsonville,Ky., and a member of the Green’s Chapel Methodist Church.  He was a talented musician that loved playing his guitar.

Mr. Curtsinger was preceded in death by his parents, his son Thomas Curtsinger Jr. and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by  his daughters  Betty Baskett of Taylorsville, Ky., and Stephanie McCoy(Chris) of Clarksville, In.  Three sons Jeff Curtsinger and his Fianc e’ Amanda of Mt. Washington, Ky., Troy Curtsinger and his fianc e’ Pam of Taylorsville,Ky., and Terry Curtsinger of Louisville,Ky.

One sister Hazel Hardin (Norman) of Taylorsville,Ky. and six Grandchildren also survive.  Mr. Curtsinger was also survived by his extended family, long time special friend Dorothy Shaw , Tammy Howell and Erica Smith of all of Mt. A Taylorsville resident, Mrs. Bettie Jean Redmon, age 68, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 in Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville.

She was born October 31, 1946 to the late Gilbert Wesley and Edna Susan Sagersey Montgomery. She was a former employee of Northfield Manor Nursing Home in Louisville where she was a CMT, was a member of the Taylorsville Community Church and a former member of Wakefield Baptist Church.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Ames Morris, a granddaughter, Whitney Ames Waldridge, as well as several brothers and sisters

She is survived by her daughter, Greta Ames (fiancé Bradley Pollett) of Taylorsville, 5 grandchildren, Anthony Shane (Cayla) Waldridge, Sheldon Morris, Michelle (Thomas) Wimsatt, Samantha (David) Nation, and 3 great grandchildren, Gavin Waldridge, Shyann and Trey Wimsatt, all of Taylorsville, 1 brother, Marvin Montgomery of Bardstown, and a sister, Brenda Chesser of Florida.

Rita Faye Chesser Davis, 58

Mrs. Rita Faye Chesser Davis age 58 of Shelbyville, Ky passed away September 13, 2015 at Norton Hospital Downtown, Louisville,Ky. Rita was born in Shelbyville, Ky the daughter of Walter Chesser of Shelbyville  and the late Janice Stevens Chesser.  She was a graduate of Shelby County High School  class of 1975.  Mrs. Davis was a former employee of Whitney Young Job Corp. where she worked as a Secretary.  She attended the Lighthouse Christian Church in Louisville,Ky and was a former member of Elk Creek Baptist Church of Taylorsville.

Besides her mother she was preceded in death by her brother Barry Chesser. Rita is survived by her father Walter Chesser of Shelbyville, her daughters Sharron DeGail Davis of Fisherville, and Stephanie Laree Davis of Shelbyville.  One sister Connie Chesser and her companion John Ruble of Shelbyville. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Donald Lee Vires, 74

Mr. Donald Lee Vires age 74 passed away September 6, 2015 at Baptist Health in Louisville, Ky.  He was born in Spencer County, Ky the son of the Late Burnon and Ethyel Hardin Vires.  He was a member of the Taylorsville First Assembly of God Church and was a retired employee of General Electric after 17 years of service.

He is survived by his wife Terri Couch Vires of Taylorsville, his daughters Donna Diane Vires Bassett(Jeffrey) of Louisville, Ky., Leah Dawn Vires Lohden (Timothy) of Cecilia, Ky., one son Michael Dewayne Vires of Taylorsville, Ky., one sister Mary Joan Carter (Tommy) of Hodgenville, Ky., and One brother Joe Vires(Betty) of Taylorsville, Ky.  Five Grandchildren, Chae,David, John, Timothy,  and Amber.  Two Great-grandchildren Ryleigh and Kaidin.

Besides his parents he was preceded In death by his sister Geraldine Williams, half sisters Mable Moore and Betty Truax, and one half brother Junior Biven.

Devon Stanley Maddox, 20

Mr. Devon Stanley Maddox age 20 passed away September 6, 2015 at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown, KY.  He was born the son

Of Fred Stanley Maddox of Taylorsville and the late Angela Sanders Maddox.  Devon attended Taylorsville Community Church and enjoyed working on the farm and being outdoors.

Besides his father he is survived by his step-father Hubert "Red" Cornett of Taylorsville, Ky., his sisters Stephanie Maddox(Cody) and Journey Cornett  Both of Taylorsville.  One brother Jayden Cornett of Taylorsville.  Grandparents Howard Prewitt and Jean Milburn of Taylorsville, Sue Welsh and Terry Dotson of Taylorsville, and Kathy and Jose Velasquez of Taylorsville,Ky.

Patricia Kay Martin, 71

Mrs. Patricia Kay Martin age 71 of Waddy, Ky passed away at Norton Hosparus Women’s Pavillion in Louisville, Ky on August 25, 2015.  She was born the daughter of the late Maurice and Irene Potter Huston in Monroe, MI.  Mrs. Martin enjoyed her family and had a great compassion for animals.  She was a former employee of the Budd Plant in Shelbyville, Ky and was of the Pentecostal Faith.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her parents, and her son Robert Martin, also her sisters Sandy Spencer, Lillian Vaughn, Nora Cousino, and other siblings in Michigan.

She is Survived by her husband of 50 Years Arnold Martin of Waddy, Ky. , her son David Turner, Jr. of Jenera, OH., and son Shannon Martin of  Waddy, Ky. two daughters Kathy Masterson (Tom) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Sharon Martin and her fiance’ Chuck Germany of Waddy, Ky. Also her sister Laury Helton(Arnold) of Sparta, OH.  Seven Grandchildren and  Five great-grandchildren also survive.

Helen J. (Buttrey) Ingram, 84

, passed from this life into Heaven August 16, 2015, where she was reunited with her husband of 66 years, Cecil Ingram, who had passed only 7 weeks before her. 
Helen was born in Tennessee the daughter of Early F. Buttrey and Maymie Brown Buttrey Hilbert, step-daughter of John Dennis Hilbert.  She was also preceded in death by brothers, Farris Evans Buttrey and James Dennis Hilbert and Sister, Barbara (Ivan) Taylor. After she retired from Hazelwood State Hospital in Louisville, she devoted her time and strength to her Jesus, her husband, and her family.

Helen was a resident of Spencer County and a highly regarded Sunday School teacher at First Assembly of God in Taylorsville for many years. She was also known for her poignant rendition of "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be." She left behind two daughters:  Sharon (Vincent) Hoover of Shepherdsville and Marna (Darrell) Hornback of Taylorsville; a stepson Kem A. Ingram of Louisville; and her pride and joy, three grandchildren, Christopher Shewmaker of Irmo South Carolina, Marnessa Hornback of Ft. Wright Kentucky, and D. Shae (Annie) Hornback of Bristol Rhode Island, as well as many nieces, and nephews, and dear friends who will miss her.

Visitation will be at Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home Thursday, August 20, 2015, 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Friday August 21, 2015, 9:00 a.m. until Funeral time.  Funeral will be at Taylorsville Community Church 1:00 p.m.  Friday.  Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 



 
Francis Diane Rogers Devine, 64

Mrs. Francis Diane Rogers Devine, age 64, passed Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in Louisville.  She was born on April 21, 1951 in Spencer County to the late Roy Rogers Jr. and Mary Francis Redmon Croft. She was a hairdresser and a member of Lifeline Christian Crossing Church in Taylorsville.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her son Joseph (Eddie) Robey, brother, Bruce (Boggy) Rogers and a sister Johnetta (Dumpy) Beshazier.
She is survived by her children, Angie Lanham, Gary (Rhonda) Robey, and Devin (Aaron) Harrison all of Louisville, her sisters, Sarita Rogers of Leitchfield, Charlotte Holderman of Louisville, Cathy (Keith) Marshall of Clarksville, IN., Twana (Larry) Hale of Clarksville, IN., Mary Ann (Brad) Johnson of Taylorsville, her brothers, Arvin Rogers, and Darvin (Shelley) Rogers both of Louisville. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 14, 2015 at 1:00pm at New Hope Assembly of God Church in Taylorsville with Brother Joe Vires officiating.  Burial will be Valley Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the church Friday from 9:00am until 1:00pm service.  Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


 

Earl (Jack) Gilbert Jr., 77

Mr. Earl (Jack) Gilbert Jr. age 77 passed away July 31, 2015 at Kindred Healthcare of Louisville,Ky.  He was born the son of the lateEarl and Ida Ashby Gilbert Sr. in Spencer County.    He a former employee of A&M Oil Company of Taylorsville and member of the Mt. Zion Campbranch Baptist Church.

Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Sue Mitchell and Cora Crow and Regina Bush.  Also a brother Henry Gilbert.  Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife Margaret Young Gilbert of Taylorsville, his daughter Patricia Louise Gilbert of Bardstown, his son Earl Matthew Gilbert (Tonya) of Louisville, Terrance Eugene Gilbert (Patricia) of Taylorsville and Eric Allen Gilbert (Holly) of Taylorsville.  One brother Clarence B. Gilbert (Nannie) of Taylorsville and his sister-in-law Marsha Gilbert of Louisville, 4 grand children and 1 great grandchild also survive.

Irene Roberts, 81

Mrs. Irene  Roberts age 81 passed away on August 2, 2015 at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville.  Mrs. Roberts was born the daughter of the late Hugh Otis and Alpha Aileen Williams Shouse.  Mrs. Roberts was a loving teacher where she taught special needs children at Smyrna Elementery.   She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and had a love for animals.  A graduate of Taylorsville High School and attended Translyvania  University. She attended the Big Spring Assembly of God Church and Living Waters Church of Mt. Washington.

Besides her parents Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband B.F.(Bull) Roberts.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by her daughter Kathleen Tucker (Doug) of Louisville, Ky.  Her son Bryan Roberts (Kathi) of Taylorsville, her sister Cornelia Winkler of Taylorsville, and brother Steve Shouse of Louisville , Ky.  Two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren also survive.

Visitation for Mrs. Irene Roberts August 4, 2015 from 3-8 P.M. and August 5, 2015 from 8 A.M. til funeral time at 11:A.M. at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home with Sister Mavis Bennett officiating.   Interment in Highland Memeory Gardens in Mt. Anthony Thomas Louis Jr., 55

Mr. Anthony Thomas Louis Jr. age 55 passed away July 31, 2015 at his residence.  He was employed by Baughman Building Materials in Shelbyvllle, Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife Kim Marie Louis of Taylorsville, Ky and  his two sons Anthony and Matthew Louis also of Taylorsville.  His mother Jacqueline Hrebik of Taylorsville.  One sister Deborah Stone(Thomas) of Louisville, Ky. He was preceded in death by his father Anthony Thomas Louis Sr.

Gary Goodlett, 66

A Bloomfield resident, Mr. Gary Goodlett, age 66, passed away Monday, July 20, 2015 in St. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville. He was born May 28, 1949 in Spencer County to the late Jessie Clyde and Ruby Mae Ingram Goodlett. He was a farmer and was a former employee of the Nelson County Board of Education where he taught for 17 years as a Vocational Agriculture Teacher at Nelson County High School. He was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #210.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Allen Goodlett.

He is survived by 2 sisters, Joyce Goodlett and Golda Kelien, both of Taylorsville, 2 nieces, Sandy Truax and Debbie Redmon, his best friend and cousin, Dewayne Goodlett, numerous other cousins also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Gary Goodlett will be Friday, July 24, 2015 at 2:30 pm at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville. Bro. Chad Goodlett officiating. Interment will be in Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00-8:00 at the funeral home. Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #210 will hold a Masonic memorial service at 7:00 pm. Maynard Rodney Alls, 78

Mr. Maynard Rodney Alls age 78 passed away July 11, 2015 at Baptist Hospital in Louisville, KY.  He was born the son of the late Leonard Walters and Maude marie Dooley Alls in Richmond, Va.  He was a retired employee of Overnight Tranportaion in Louisville,Ky.  Mr. Alls was a  retired military veteran having proudly served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War and other military conflicts.  He was a member of VFW Post # 11426 and had a great passion for his church family at Lighthouse Baptist Church of Taylorsville where he attended.

Mr. Alls was preceded in death by his parents and several other family members.

He leaves to cherish his memory sons Stuart Lynn Owen (Angela) of Mt. Washington, Ky., and Christopher Chad Owen (Tina) of Mt. Washington, Ky. His sister Myrtie Thompson of Salem, Va. And brother Gregory Alls (Dale) of New Castle, Va.  Two grandchildren Kaitlyn B. Owen and Shelby L. Owen.  One great-grandchild Hunter M. Mellick.

Frances Carlotta Jewell, 77

Mrs. Frances Carlotta Jewell age 77 passed away July 9, 2015 at Baptist Hospital in Louisville, Ky.  Mrs. Jewell was born the daughter of the late Roy and Stattie Muriel Taylor in Spencer County, Kentucky.  Carlotta was a lifelong resident of Spencer County, former restaurant, florist, and retail clothing store owner.  She attended the New Hope Church of Taylorsville, was a homemaker, loving mother, and  enjoyed most of all the time

She spent with her grandchildren which included shopping trips, eating out,music, and most of all one of her greatest passions, dancing.  She was certainly a community person who also enjoyed stopping to talk and visit with people in  town.  She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Her many acts of kindness to the people in Taylorsville will forever be remembered. Carlotta was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 51 years Kenneth Jewell. 

She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Marlene Jewell of Bloomfield, her sons Kenneth Dewayne Jewell of Taylorsville, Roy Dale Jewell(Celia) of Taylorsville, Hollie Daniel Jewell(Penny) of Mt. Eden, Paul Maurice “David”Jewell (Loretta) of Taylorsville and Clifford Baker of Taylorsville.  Two brothers Ivan Taylor of Taylorsville, and Doug Taylor (Jackie) of Bloomfield.  18 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren also survive.
