A long time resident of Taylorsville, mrs. Barbara eubank Shelburne age 79 passed away peacefully at her residence on May 20, 2013. Mrs. Shelburne was a retired school teacher for the Spencer County school system and attended the Taylorsville first Christian church. She was born in Franklin, Ky and was a graduate of  Western Kentucky University. Mrs. Shelburne was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Shelburne  and  her parents Clay and Zelma Walker Eubank.

She is survived by her nephew Troy and his wife Susan Shelburne of Taylorsville and several other nieces and nephews.

 Earl Thomas  Simpson Jr. of  Taylorsville Kentucky, passed away at his residence in Taylorsville Ky., Monday, April 22, 2013.  He was born in Louisville Ky., & worked for Poly America.

He is survived by his wife Felicia Irene Simpson of Taylorsville Ky., his sons; Joshua Lomar Simpson of Louisville Ky., Rimone Fitzgerald Simpson of Taylorsville Ky., & Nicholas Shane Starks of Louisville Ky., his parents; Earl & Wanda Simpson Sr. of Louisville Ky., his sisters; Anita Louise Grant of Louisville Ky., Crystal Rae Simpson of Louisville Ky., & Vanda Kay Brock of Lagrange Ky., his brother; Claude Mitchell of Louisville Ky.,  3 grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother Rimone Fitzgerald Simpson.

 Dane Karlon Sheldon of Taylorsville Kentucky, passed away at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville Thursday, April 12, 2013.  He was born in Norwalk Ohio, & retired from Ford Motor Company.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years Linda Boyer Sheldon of Taylorsville Ky, his daughter; Alicia (Bob Jr.) Coots of Taylorsville Ky., his sons; Kyle (Julie) Sheldon of Louisville Ky., & Steven Sheldon of Louisville Ky., his mother Hazel Puder Sheldon of Strongsville Oh., his sister; Karen Zarzour of Strongsville Oh., his brother; Dwayne Sheldon of North Ridgeville Oh.,   2 grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Sheldon.

 Mathis Wilbur Rogers of Taylorsville Kentucky, passed away at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville Thursday, March 28, 2013.  He was born in Anderson County Ky. to the late Henry Mathis & Lena Belle Cunningham Rogers, and a native of Spencer County Ky., retired from Armour Meat Packing Company & a life long farmer.  Mr. Rogers was a member of Briar Ridge Christian Church and former sexton of the Briar Ridge Christian Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years Pauline Rogers of Taylorsville Ky, his daughters; Sue (J.B.) Walls of Taylorsville Ky., Nadine (Russ) Jarvis of Wilkinson IN., Gale (Jerry) Morris of Ashland Ky., & Kim Mardis of Elizabethtown Ky., 12 grandchildren, & 9 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Christine Rogers, his brother Floyd Rogers & his son in law James Mardis.

 Johnny Bruce Thurman of Shelbyville Kentucky, passed away at his residence Saturday March 9, 2013.  He was a native of Lewis County Ky., retired truck driver of Overnite Transportation after 15 years of service, and a former employee of Ohio Valley Aluminum of Shelbyville.  Mr. Thurman attended Shelbyville Church of God, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming & gardening. 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Bonnie Louise Howard Thurman  of Shelbyville Ky, his daughters; Brenda Thurman of Shelbyville Ky., & Linda Shelton of Mocksville NC., son; Roger Thurman of Taylorsville Ky., brother; Virgil Thurman of Ohio,  7 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren also survive. He is survived by his wife; Audrea Sessions Smither of Taylorsville Ky, daughters; Kathy Dorman of Bloomfield Ky., & Cindy Murray of Frankfort Ky., 3 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents Plummer & Cleora Aline Krieger Smither Sr.

 Leslie Carol Elder, of Bardstown Kentucky, passed away Tuesday January 15, 2013, at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville Ky as a result of injuries sustained in an industrial accident at the Flowers Bakery in Bardstown.  She was born in Louisville Kentucky and native to Spencer County Kentucky.  She was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church.

She is survived by her Daughter, Grace Elder of Bardstown Ky, Father Dutch Elder of Taylorsville Ky, Sister Lee Ann (Destry) Naylor of Jacksonville FL., and her companion Shawn McLaughin of Bardstown Ky. She is preceded in death by her mother Frances Auberry Elder, and her brother Tom Elder.

 Shelby Tyler Smith, of Taylorsville Kentucky, passed away, Friday December 28, 2012, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision in the south-bound lane of interstate 71 mile, marker 60, in Green County Ohio. He was visiting the parents of his girlfriend, Michaela Ray of Marietta Georgia for the Holidays.  He was born in Louisville Ky., graduated from The Spencer County High School & was a member of the FFA and other organizations at the time of graduation. He was a third year student at the Boyce Bible College Louisville Ky., employed by Arising Bay Assisted Living, and was a very active member of the Plum Creek Baptist Church.

Gloria Louise “Sue” Broughton, age 76, of Taylorsville, passed away peacefully at her residence on November 3, 2012. She was a native of Spencer County, a former employee of Conco Inc., and a member of the Open Door Christian Center where she served as Children’s Sunday School Director. She had a great passion for people and dedicated much of her life to helping others.

She was born the daughter of the late Earl and Marguerite Hopewell-Embry Whitaker and was preceded in death by her husband; W.F. Broughton. She is survived by her daughters; Tanya I. (Brad) Evans of Smithfield, KY., Kelley Jo Inghram of Louisville, KY., Terri D. (Carroll) Taylor-Ingram of Taylorsville, a son; Troy (Vickie) Inghram of Taylorsville, a sister; Mildred Jean Hayden of Taylorsville, 2 brothers; Buddy Whitaker of Mt.  Barry Robin Chesser, of Shelbyville Kentucky, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville Ky.  He was born in Spencer County KY on October 29, 1962.  He was a native to Spencer County KY, he was a former employee of Legatt & Platt in Simpsonville ky.

He is survived by his father Walter Chesser of Shelbyville Ky, his sons Cody & Austin Chesser of Mt Eden Ky, Sisters Rita Davis of Shelbyville Ky, & Connie Ritter of Bagdad Ky, nieces Shannon, Jessica, Sabrina, & Stephanie Great Niece Anyssa & Great Nephew Anquan.  He was preceded in death by his mother Janice Chesser.

 Ralph Shelburne, of Taylorsville Kentucky, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville Ky.  He  was born in Spencer County KY on January 24, 1933.  He was a native to Spencer Counties in KY,  he was a member of the Taylorsville First Christian Church, and he worked as a Dairy Farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford & Lucille Cook Shelburne Sr., and Clifford (Jip) Shelburne Jr., Caroline Sturgeon.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara Eubank Shelburne of Taylorsville Ky., Sisters; Francis Shelburne Graham of Jeffersontown Ky., Corine “Daisey” Shelburne of Mt Eden Ky., 7 Nieces & Nephews; April, Kim, Judy, Doug, Mitch, Clayton, & Troy.

 Kim Huckleberry, of Cox’s Creek Kentucky, died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at her residence in Cox’s Creek Ky.  She was born in Jefferson County KY on October 25, 1962. She was a native to Nelson & Spencer Counties in KY,  She was a RTM Clerk at Lowes of Bardstown Ky, She was a member of the Little Mt. Baptist Church, She was best known for greeting and assisting customers at Lynda’s Grill of Taylorsville Ky. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Hollis Lee & Loretta Grace Hall Huckleberry and her brother Robert Eldridge.

She is survived by her companion Chuck Keeling of Cox’s Creek Ky, Daughters; Tamra Yancey of Taylorsville Ky., Stephanie Simpson of Taylorsville Ky., & Jennifer Simpson of Bardstown Ky. A resident of Taylorsville Kentucky, William Jessie McClain age 79, passed away July 10, 2012 in Jefferson County Ky. at Kindred Healthcare.  Mr. McClain was retired from General Electric Appliance Park, attended Grace Chapel Church in Taylorsville Ky, Preceded in death his parents Jess Lee & Zora Richardson McClain. 

He was survived by his wife Gladys Norton McClain of Taylorsville Ky, sons; Ricky & Timmy McClain of Taylorsville Ky, and Tony & Randy McClain of Mt.  Mary Badgett Thomas Martin, of Taylorsville KY, died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville Ky.  She was born in Nelson County KY on March 2, 1918. She was a native to Nelson & Spencer Counties in KY.  She was a member of the Big Spring Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob Lawrence Martin, daughter Rosetta Shelburne and grandson Robert Martin.

She is survived by her daughter Imogene Armstrong of Taylorsville KY, sons; Lawrence Arnold Martin of Waddy KY, & Dwight B. Martin of Taylorsville KY. She was also survived by 14 Grandchildren, 20 Great-Grandchildren, 4 Great-Great Grandchildren & several nieces and nephews.

 Margaret Ray “Biddie” Sullivan Montray, of Taylorsville KY. Died Wednesday June 6, 2012. She was surrounded by her loving family and her caregivers.

 She was born in Taylorsville on June 9, 1922 to Edgar Everett Sullivan and Pauline McElroy Wakefield Sullivan. She graduated from Montreat Normal School in Montreat, NC. And she married Edward H. Montray and raised a family in Woodcliff Lake NJ.

 Biddie was Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood, NJ.  And later at the Bog Spring-Bloomfield Presbyterian Church of Bloomfield KY.  After earning her teaching certificate at Montclair State College, Montclair NJ. She taught art and home economics at the middle school in Westwood NJ, for 25 years.

 She is survived by her daughters Mary Lynn Montray-Scall of Maplewood NJ., and Margaret LaMarr Montray of Maplewood MO.  She is also survived by her grandson Gregory Everett Gould of Yonkers NY., and granddaughters Jessica Ray Gould Mann of Jacksonville FL., and Riley Anne Montray of Maplewood NJ.  She is also survived by a great grandchild, Adalynn Ray Mann of Jacksonville FL., and extended nieces, nephews & cousins.

A resident of Taylorsville Kentucky, Darwin Johnson age 84, passed away June 4, 2012 in Spencer County Ky. at Signature Healthcare.  Mr. Thomas was a successful farmer and Veteran of the United States Army. He served in occupied Japan under General Macarthur.  He was a member of the Bardstown Church of Christ and attended the Taylorsville 1st Baptist Church.  He has been married to his wife Marie Donovan Thomas for 66 years, he was avidly involved in his grandchildren’s sports as well as Spencer county sports.  He was a member of the VFW post 11426, & retired member of the Salt River Electric Board after 23 years of service.  He was the founder of the National Farmers Association of Spencer County, also member of the Lions Club and Fish& Wildlife.

 He was survived by his wife Marie Thomas of Taylorsville Ky.; his sons, Darwin “Jonny” (Sandra) Thomas III of Ghent Ky., Ronald (Lisa) Thomas of Taylorsville Ky., his daughters Sandra Jewell of Mt Washington Ky., Penny Edwards of Taylorsville Ky; ; his sisters, Hazel Holt of Brownsburg IN, Beatrice Nethery of Bloomfield Ky.; 9 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren.

A resident of Jeffersontown Kentucky, Herman Clay McGee age 98, passed away March 23, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Center in Jeffersontown Ky.  He was a native of Spencer county Ky., he worked as a dairy farmer & cattle breeder, he was active in 4H farm extension, and a member of Elk Creek Baptist Church. 

 He was survived by his daughter, Phyllis Lovan (Wayne) and son Dean (Sally) McGee both of Louisville KY.; two grandchildren, Wayne and Cynthia Lovan of New York City, NY. He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Florene King McGee; parents, John B. and Hattie Jewell McGee; nine brother and sisters.
