Mrs. Myrtle Gray King age 95 passed away April 13, 2014 at Baptist Health in Louisville, Ky. 
Born the daughter of the late Howard Nelson "Juber" and Betty May Shelburne Gray  in Spencer County Ky.  She was a homemaker, wife and compassionate mother.  She was a member of the Briar Ridge Christian Church.  She is survived by her daughter Mary Ruth Ethington & son Howard King ( Helen) both of Taylorsville,  David King of Shelbyville & One brother Howard Wilson Gray (Bernice) of Louisville , 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren & 12 great, great grandchildren.  Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lee Roy King , 1great- grandson , Shelby Tyler Smith, sisters Mildred Holmes and Mable Gray and brothers Jesse, Kenneth & Ralph Gray. 

Visitation Wednesday April 16, 2014 1 til 8 p.m. and April 17, 2014 9 a.m. til 1 p.m. funeral time at Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home Taylorsville with Bros. Jenny Guzman Bacon, 63

Mrs. Jenny Guzman Bacon age 63 passed away April 12, 2014 in Louisville, Ky at the Norton Hospice Care.

She was born the daughter of Fernando and ada ramaro guzman  in Pureto rico.  Mrs. Bacon completed her 2nd year of college, was a homemaker , loving wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband George John Bacon of Fisherville, ky, and two daughters mary Ellen bacon of LaGrange and sarah phelps of North Carolina and her mother ada guzman of new York.  One sister mary Shah  of New York. Three grandchildren also survive.

Michael Allen Bennett, 53

Mr. Michael Allen Bennett age 53 of Louisville KY passed away at his residence in Jefferson County on April 9th, 2014.  Mr Bennett was born in Spencer County, Ky to David Leon and Judy Frances Curtsinger Bennett.  He was a former employee of Goodwill Industries. 

Beside his parents he is survived by his brother Anthony Harland-Bennett and his niece Amber Harland-Bennett both of Goshen, KY.

Donald Argene Stevens, 75

Mr. Donald Argene Stevens age 75 passed away March 31, 2014 at his residence.  He was born the son of the late Tommy and Annie Pearl Hilbert Stevens in Spencer County, Ky.  He retired from Armour packing company in Louisville, Ky. 

Mr. Stevens is survived by his companion Norene Hovis of Louisville, Ky.  His three daughters Kathy Dotson (Joseph) of Fisherville, Ky. , Linda Jackson of Taylorsville, Ky.,  and Melany Webb (Jim) of Mt. Washington, Ky.  One Sister Teresa McAllister (Gary) of Eminence, Ky.  10 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews  also survive. Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Gary, John Thomas, and Charles Stevens.

Kenneth Nelson Gray, 93

Mr. Kenneth Nelson Gray age 93 passed away at his residence on March 16, 2014.  Born the son of the late Howard and Betty Shelburne Gray in Spencer  County, Ky.  Mr. Gray was a farmer  and an Army veteran of World War ll having served his country in France and Germany.  He was a member of the Plum Creek Baptist Church.

He  is survived by his son Larry Gray (Darylyn) Gray of Taylorsville, Ky. And a daughter Tammi Jones of Taylorsville, Ky.  One sister Myrtle King of Taylorsville, ky and one brother Howard Gray of Louisville, Ky. Three grandchildren and one Great- grandchild also survive. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Mildred Holmes and Mable Gray, and two brothers Ralph and Jessie Gray.

Francis Martina Hilbert age 57 passed away March 12, 2014 at  Baptist  East Hospital in  Louisville, Ky.  She was the daughter of the late Bobby and Goldie Cook McKinley born in Spencer County Kentucky.  She was employed by the Spencer County School system.

She is survived by her son Matthew Hilbert of Taylorsville, Ky. He Sisters Marlene Cranmer(Russell) of Taylorsville, Ky and Lina Rogers (Bruce) of Taylorsville, Ky. And Her beloved chihuahua Paris.

Gerald Edward Whitaker, 70

Mr. Gerald Edward Whitaker age 70 of Taylorsville, Ky., passed away January 24, 2014 at Baptist  Healthcare of Louisville.  He was the son of the late Earl and Marguerite Embry Whitaker and was born in Delaware County, In.  He attended Ahrens High School.  He retired from General Electric . He was an Army Veteran.

Mr. Whitaker is survived by his wife of 48 years Carolyn Walls Whitaker of Taylorsville. His daughter Dana Shelburne(Troy) of Taylorsville,Ky and his son Michael Whitaker(Cindy) of Taylorsville, Ky. One sister Jean Hayden of Taylorsville, Ky. And One brother Buddy Whitaker(Kathy) of Mt. Eden, Ky.

Five Grandchildren, two Great-Grandchildren, three Step-grandchildren, three step Great-Grandchildren , several nieces and nephews also survive.  Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by his sister Gloria Sue Broughton.

Zeda Nikole Dean Overturf

Zeda Nikole Dean Overturf  3 month old infant daughter of Christopher Overturf and Jessica Young of Taylorsville passed away January 16, 2014 at her residence. Zeda was Born September 26, 2013 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Ky. Although  her life was short she touched the lives of all who knew her.

She is survived by her sisters Katy Young, Leanna Birdsong and Kristina Overturf.  Grandparents Russell Bentley of Taylorsville and Tabitha McCulloch of Paducah, Ky. Stanley and Johnna Young of  Paducah, ky.  Her two aunts Savannah Bentley of Taylorsville and Arie  Johnson of Paducah, Ky.

Nancy Rogers, 88

Mrs. Nancy Rogers age 88 passed away on January 17, 2014 at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Margie Lewis Cook. Mrs. Rogers  was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Taylorsville Community Church formerly Taylorsville First Assembly of God.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by her daughter Beverly Milburn(Stanley) of Taylorsville. One son William Rogers(Rosa) of Edinburg, Tx.  Two Grandchildren and  five Great-Grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her daughter Rita Rogers.

Visitation Monday January 20, 2014 from 3-8 P.m. and Tuesday January 21, 2014 from 9 A.M. til funeral time at 1 P.m. at Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home of Taylorsville.

William J. Whitaker, 75

William J. (Billy) Whitaker, 75 of Jeffersontown, KY passed away Tuesday January 14, 2014 at his home. He was preceded in death by his mother Ida Robinson Whitaker, Father James Murray "Hip" Whitaker, Daughter Judy Lanham, half brother Jim Whitaker and second wife Dorsey Lee Whitaker.
He is survived by his daughter Sherry Estes, his sister Roberta Kathryn Alford, half sister Norma Jean McClain, and half brother David "Butch" Whitaker.

Others left to mourn him are three grandchildren Michelle Williams, Kenny Joe Lanham and Jennifer Lanham, his five great grandchildren and his nieces Amy Alford Lusk, Rebekah Alford Andrews, and one nephew Shawn Alford.

He was a graduate of Taylorsville High School class of 1957. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Republic Diesel in Louisville. He loved to read, especially the Bible.
He attended the First Christian Church and the First Baptist Church of Taylorsville where he was baptized.

According to his wishes, he was cremated. A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date. Greenwell Funeral Home of Taylorsville, KY is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Vernon Waldridge age 79 passed away at his residence January 17, 2014.  He  was born in Anderson County Ky the son of the late William archie and edna glavis waldridge. Retired from katayama industries in Shelbyville, ky. He was a member of the Waddy Church of Faith and a mason. 

He  is survived by his wife of 59 years Virginia Peach Waldridge of Taylorsville, Ky. Two daughters Brinda Darlene Waldridge of Chaplin, Ky and  Rod Waldridge of Taylorsville, Ky. One son Kenneth Gene Waldridge(Joyce) of Taylorsville, Ky. His sister Louise McGaughey (Marshall) of Lawrenceburg, Ky.  Brothers Ernie Waldridge (Joyce) of Taylorsville, Ky and Bruce Jeffries (Denise) of Indiania.

Mrs. Goldie Montgomery age 81 passed away January 11, 2014 at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville, Ky. She was the daughter of the late Vester Otis  and Frances Elizabeth Palmer Maddox. She retired from Meadows East Healthcare.  She was Also a member of the little Mount Baptist Church.

Mrs. Montgomery is survived by three sons  Vester and David Maddox of Shelbyville, Ky and Donnie Maddox of Frankfort,  Ky. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Joseph Montgomery, a daughter Jeanette Goodlett and a step son Thomas Eugene Montgomery.

Mrs. Carla Bridgette Olson age 53 passed away January 11, 2014 at Twin Lakes Medical Center .  She was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother. She was of the Christian Faith.

She is survived by her mother Ruby Helen Marie Curtsinger Shaffer of Big Clifty, Ky.  Her son Dannie Douglas Olson Jr. sister Crystal Pearl(James)      both of Big Clifty, Ky and a granddaughter Trinity Olson of Leitchfield, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her father Marlin Lee Shaffer, her husband Dannie Douglas Olson Sr.

Teresa Lee Brumley age 57 of Taylorsville, KY passed away January 6, 2014 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, KY. Mrs. Brumley was an instructor at the Empire Beauty College.

She is survived by her husband Michael "E" Brumley of Taylorsville, KY. Her mother Harriett Tuttle Bannon of Dade City, FL. Her son Clint Lynn Smith of Hillview, KY. Her sister Barbara Harned of Brandenburg, KY, and one brother of Curren Lee Troutwine III of Frankfort, KY. 2 grandchildren also survive. Four step children, Shannon Mullins of MIddlesboro, KY, Jason, Joshua and Jonathon Brumley all of Louisville, KY. 6 step grandchildren also survive.

Barbara Joy Horn Meadors, 70

Mrs. Barbara Joy Horn Meadors, age 70 of Taylorsville, KY formerly of Louisville passed away January 4, 2014 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.  Born the daughter of the late Fred and Alice Mac Manics, she was formerly employed at Goodwill Industries.

Mrs. Meadors is survived by her two sons, John Jones (Edith) of Taylorsville, KY and Robert Jones of Taylorsville. Two sisters, Marie Sanders (J.W.) of Louisville, KY and Alice Yates of Vine Grove, KY.  Four brothers, Tommy Horn (Anna) of Irvington, KY Bill Horn (Helen) of Henryville, IN., Dennis Horn (Joann) of Mississippi, and Harold Horn.  3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild also survive.  Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Donald and Wesley Horn.

Austin Thomas Yount, 84

Austin Thomas Yount, 84 of Taylorsville, Ky passed away January 4, 2014 at Hosparus of Louisville. Retired from overnite transportation after 18 years, member and server of southeast Christian church for almost 30 years. US army veteran. Born in Shelbyville, Ky son of the late Duard and Marie Stivers Yount. 

Preceeded in death by wife Marlene Brorby Yount, brother Kenneth and sister Reva Ann Yount. Survivors include children: Alvin (LouAnn) Yount, Tom Yount, Kathy (Mark) Pait, Debbie(Michael) Hinchman and Sandy Yount.  Other family members include Tee Montfort Fonseca, Don (Nancy) Cook, David (Pam) Cook, Sunny (Bob) Coots and Mark (Lori) Day. Siblings include brothers Buddy (Ginger) Yount, Leo (Rhelda) Yount, Gary (Marcella) Yount, sisters Novella Yount Marseee and Julia (Allen) Phillips. Fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home of Taylorsville. Services to be held 11 a.m. January 10, 2014 at the funeral home.  Interment at Highland Memory Gardens in Mount Washington. Mr. James Thomas Jewell, age 78 and a native of Taylorsville, Ky passed away at Baptist Healthcare in Louisville, Ky. December 22, 2013 with his family by his side.  He was a native of Spencer County, a self employed mechanic and attended the Norton Ridge Church of Spencer County.

He was the son of the late Chris A. and Orine Curtsinger Jewell.  A resident of Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville. Mr. Jewell is survived by his wife, Brenda Sue Armstrong Jewell of Shelbyville, Ky. A daughter, Connie Sue Pebley of Wetherford, Ok. Three sons: Howard (Poppy) Jewell (Anna) of Taylorsville, Ky. Bill Jewell (Ann) of Oklahoma City, Ok. And Roger Scott of Shelbyville, Ky. 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Jesse Ray (Duck) Jewell and Leon Jewell.

Mr. George Black age 71 of Taylorsville, Ky  passed away December 14, 2013 at Baptist healthcare in Louisville, Ky.  Mr. Black was retired from General Electric and a member of Open Door Christian Center in Nelson County, Ky.

He was born the son of the late Richard and Ruby Hatter Black in Casey County, Ky.

Mr. George Black is survived by his wife Mrs. Oma Sims Black of Taylorsville, Ky., his daughter Tammy Truax (Marty) of Taylorsville, Ky, a brother Jerry Black (Phyllis) of Campbellsville, Ky, a sister-in-law Patty Black of Casey County, Ky and a grandson Joshua Truax of Taylorsville, Ky.

Preceded in death by his parents and one brother Bobby Joe Black.


 

Allen Thomas Brookshire, 89

Mr.Allen Thomas brookshire age 89 of Taylorsville, Ky passed away November 25, 2013
At hosparus palliative care in Louisville, Ky.  He was born the son of the late Guy Hughes and
Minnie Belle Monroe in Spencer County, Ky.  He was a heavy equipment operator, member and 
deacon of Taylorsville First Baptist Church and an army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Bryant Brookshire of Taylorsville, Ky, his daughters Kathy Jean Pavy (Ed) of Campbellsville, Ky and Debbie Jo Riddle (Kenny) of Louisville, Ky. His son, Terry Brookshire (Joyce) of Shelbyville, Ky.  Three sisters, Pauline Henry of Taylorsville, Ky. Anna Ruth Tindle of Shelbyville, Ky. and Betty Rae Curry of Bardstown, Ky. 6 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren also
survive. 

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as three sisters, Glenna Robinson, Wilma Stump and Marge Henry. Three brothers, Hugh, Frank, and Cecil Brookshire.

Mary Elverta Newcomb, 92 

A Taylorsville resident Ms. Mary Elverta Newcomb formerly of Ottaw, OK passed away peacefully with her family and friends by her side on November 20, 2013 at her residence. Four days earlier she had celebrated her 92nd birthday. Mrs. Newcomb was born the daughter of the late Henry and Bertha Hall Millard. She was a seamstress, homemaker and member of Taylorsville First Baptist Church as well as a very active member of the Waterford Homemakers. She was a lovely lady who always shared a smile with all she met. 

Mrs. Mary Elverta Newcomb is survived by her two daughters: Mrs. Donna Joyce Bulf (Ron) of Taylorsville, KY and Twyla Jo Ann Reiboldt (Wally) of Mohava Valley, AZ. Two sons: Charles Monroe Mayberry of Mt. Washington, KY formerly of Taylorsville, KY and Darrel Watson (Delores ) of Hoopa, CA. 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded by her parents, and her husband Howard Charles Newcomb, a brother, Charles Millard and daughter-in-law, Liz Mayberry.

Verlie Mae Thomas, 91

Verlie Mae Thomas, 91, of Taylorsville, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville. She was the former Verlie Mattingly and a native of Nelson County. She was a member of Fisherville Baptist Church and a homemaker. 

She was the daughter of the late Joseph Mansfield and Louelle Curtsinger Mattingly and was preceded in death by her husband, Marion “Buck Thomas; a daughter, Ella Katherine Haines; a son, Harold Wayne Thomas; and two brothers, Daniel and Hays Mattingly of Fisherville and Raymond Floyd Mattingly of Louisville; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. 

Visitation: Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville. Services will be Thursday November 21, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Bro. Brian Payne officiating. Burial will be in Big Spring Cemetery, and the family requests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association. 


 

William Leo First, 70

Mr. William Leo First, age 70 passed away at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Louisville, KY son of the late Ellen Linton First. He was of the Christian faith, a pipe fitter by trade and member of the pipe fitter local #522. He proudly served his country as a member of the air force. 

Mr. First is survived by his wife Joyce Sheldon First of Taylorsville, his daughters Kimberly Adcock (Doug) of Louisville, KY., Kay Nix of Frankfort, KY., And Jamie Minor (Jeffrey) of Evansville, IN. Also survived by his sisters Peggy Oliver (Doug) of Smithfield, KY., Doris Hubbell (Larry) of Jacksonvillle, FL. Brothers Jack First (Pat) of Louisville, KY and Tony First and his wife Pat. 3 Grandchildren also survive. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s association.

Gale Allen Redmon, 61

Mr. Gale Allen Redmon, 61 passed away November 7, 2013 at Kindred Healthcare of Louisville, KY. He wasw a resident of Hazelwood Center in Louisville, KY and a former resident of Taylorsville. He was born the son of the late Floyd Allen and Margie Jewell Redmon in Spencer COunty, KY. He was a member of the Taylorsville First Assembly of God Church. 

He enjoyed music and loved to listen to the music of Ann Murray and Elvis Presley. Mr. Redmon is survived by his sister, Patricia Cooper (Bob) of Mt. Eden, his Aunt Carletta Jewell of Taylorsville, and his Uncle Ronnie Jewell of Taylorsville, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ray Edward Brown, Jr., 40

Mr. Ray Edward Brown Jr., passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, in Frankfort. He was a resident of Anderson County and a former employee of Martinrea in Shelbyville. He attended Mission for Christ Church in Chaplin. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Edward Brown Sr. He is survived by his son, Bront Edward Brown of Louisville, and his mother, Betty Brown of Lawrenceburg.

Visitation will take place Thursday, Oct. 31, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 1, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Greenwell Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville. Services will take place 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at the funeral home with Brother Mark Glasscock and Brother John Dagnan officiating and interment in Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Road, Louisville. 

Brian Orville Thacker, 21

Brian Orville Thacker, 21, passed away at his residence in Shepherdsville on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013. He was born in Pikeville and was an employee of Triumph Landscaping. He was a graduate of Spencer County High School. 

He is survived by his wife Amber Harley Thacker of Shphersville; his parents, Charles and JOdi Russell of Taylorsville; his brother, Johnny Thacker of Jeffersontown; his grandparents, Don and Cresta Stanley of Taylorsille and Sarah and Nelson Hardman of Grafton, OHio.

Visitation will take place Wednesday Oct. 30, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 31st from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville. Services will take place Thursday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Brother Pat Nix officiating and internment in the Elk Creek Baptist Cemetery in Elk Creek. 


 

Herman Owen Case Sr., 70

Herman Owen Case Sr., age 70 passed away October 20, 2013 in Jefferson Co Ky.  He is survived by his children Herman Owen Case Jr  of Mt Eden & Cerilda Peach (Eric) of Lawrenceburg & 4 Grandchildren.  He also has one surviving brother Estil Case of Lawrenceburg.

Lula Edna Derry, 90

Mrs. Lula Edna Derry, 90, of Taylorsville, passed away on October 12, 2013, at Glen Ridge Health Campus in Louisville.

She was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Elizabeth Belinda Hilbert Ingram. Born in Spencer County, she was a former employee of General Electric and retired after 30 years of service. She was a member of Taylorsville First Baptist Church for 73 years, where she served as president of the Winsome Sunday school class and also taught Sunday school in the junior department. She was actively involved in the church WMU and enjoyed being a part of the church ministry. She was one of the oldest members of the church. 

She was married to her first husband, Dell Stucker, for 15 years and to that union leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, Larry Stucker (Sherry) of Louisville and Billy Stucker (Sherrill) of Louisville. After his passing, she then married Howard Derry. She and Howard were married 48 years. To tht union, she leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Kathy Derry Day of Louisville, and a stepson, Russell Derry (Laverne) of Crown Point, IN. Seven grandchildren nd 12 great-grandchildren also survive. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands, as well as her siblings, Pearl Houghlin, Hallie Osbourne, Lydia McKinley and Bud Ingram. According to family records, siblings Milton Robert Ingram, Artle Francis and Christine Ingram passed away in 1919. 
She leaves behind a loving family, a precious church family, and friends as well. In her letter of final requests to her family, she leaves this thought: "What a wonderful time and happy day that will be when we all meet again in heaven." 

Visitation: Oct. 13, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville and Oct. 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Services: Oct, 13 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Bro. Gary Mills officiating. Rick Ulrich, 59

Mr. Rick Norman Ulrich, age 59, passed away at his residence after a long illness. He was a retired truck driver and member of Southeast Christian Church. 
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother, Mary Gregory of Louisville, KY and his wife Susan Ulright of Mt. Eden, KY, his daughter, Courtney Hansen of Montana, and his brother, Tim Ulrich of Hutchison, KS. One grandchild also remains. He was preceded in death by his Father, Norman Ulrich. 

Cremation was chosen by the family and a memorial is planned at later date.

William Troy Caraway, 42

Mr. William Troy Caraway, 42, of Taylorsville, passed away October 6, 2013, at the University of Louisville Hospital with friends and family by his side. He was employed by Hot Mix Asphalt in Middletown where he worked as a metal fabricator. 

He was the son of the late William Roy Jr. and Rebecca Porter Armstrong Caraway and was born in St. Charles, LA. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his family. 

Survivors include his two songs, Bailey and Zachary Caraway, both of Taylorsville; sisters Billie Young (Ronnie) of Louisville and Sherry Willis (John) of Louisville; a brother, Jim Caraway of Taylorsville; and several other family members and friends. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 3 to 8 p.m at Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home and Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with Sister Mavis Bennett officiating. His interment will be in Valley Cemetery. 


Paul Ray Dickey, 69

Paul Ray Dickey, 69 of Fisherville, died Oct. 1 at his residence. 

He was the son of the late Jesse Benjamin and Lucy Agnes Pinkston Dickey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister, Gladys Stith, and his brother, Larry Dickey. Survivors include his sister, Marion Shaw of Mount Washington; brothers, Gary Dickey (Gina) of Mount Washington, Jessie Dickey (Debra) of Jeffersontown and Ronald Dickey of Waymego, KS.

Services will take place Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. at Greenwell Houghlin Funeral Home with Bro. David Clay officiating, with an interment at Highland Memory Gardens in Mount Washington. 



 
Raymond Wilson Lee Armstrong, 71

Raymond Wilson Lee Armstrong, 71, passed away Sept. 29 2013, at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville after a long illness. 

Born in Spencer County, he was the son of the late Raymond Vernon and Mattie Belle Curtsinger Armstrong. He was a steel worker and master welder. Retired from Legatt Platt in Simpsonville, he was a member of the Little Mount Baptist Church. 

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Zelma Elizabeth Barnett Armstrong of Taylorsville; his daughters, Robin Parks (Kenneth) of Campbellsburg and Krista Armstrong of Taylorsville; his sons, Eddie Wilson Armstrong (Linda) of Taylorsville and James "Mouchie" Armstrong (Heather) of Taylorsville; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place Oct. 1 from 2 to 8 p.m. and Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home.



 
Albert Ray Bennett, 85

Albert Ray Bennett, 85, passed away Sep. 27, 2013, at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville. 

Albert Ray "Honey" Bennett was the son of the late Roy Booth and Mable Foreman Bennett. He was a graduate of Taylorsville High School. He retired from TV sales and service. He was  retired Army veteran and faithfully served his country during the Korean war. He was also a part-time employee where he worked as a greeter at Walmart in Shelbyville. 

He attended the Bethesda Church of God in Shelbyville. He also attended Living Waters Church in Mount Washington, Open Door Christian Center in Bloomfield and Ashes Creek Assembly of God. His church attendance was in support of the many ministries his wife started. 

He leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life, Mavis Inghram Bennett, his wife of 42 years; as well as his children, Vonda Martin (Kirby) of Taylorsville and Kyle Bennett of Taylorsville; five grandchildren nd several nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held Sunday, Sep. 29, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home. Services will be held Monday, Sep. 30, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Bro. Chad Goodlett and Bro. Terry Burkhead officiating and burial in Valley Cemetery.

Carl Lee Glasscock Jr., 83

Former Spencer County Kentucky Judge Executive C.L. Glasscock passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Baptist Hospital East surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Glasscock was the founder of Glasscock Sawmill, former Spencer County School Board Member, Spencer County Sheriff for 4 years and County Judge Executive for 12 years. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. He started a monthly nursing home ministry and he published a weekly newspaper column in the Spencer Magnet entitled, "From the Word." He was a minister for 38 years and served as pastor of the Mission for Christ Church which he started. 

He loved friends, family, conversations of politics and his ultimate passion of sharing scriptures. He was the son of the late Carl Lee Sr. and Zelma Patterson Glasscock He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years Roberta Jewell Glasscock. His daughters Lori Neeley (Charles) of Prestonsburg, KY; Rhonda Boguskie (Russell) of Taylorsville, KY; Cheryl Hughes (Gary) of Morgantown, KY; Monica Kracht (Douglas) of Petersburg, IN; and Marsha Dailey (Eddie) of Owensboro, KY. His sons, Mark Glasscock (Karen) of Bloomfield, KY; Carl Lee Glasscock III (Susan) of Taylorsville, KY. One brother, James Leroy Glasscock (Debra) of Owensboro, KY. 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren also survive. 

Funeral Services for Mr. Carl Lee Glasscock, Jr. will be Friday September 27, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home with Brother Gary Mills officiating. Interment in Valley Cemetary in Taylorsville, KY.

Margaret Christine Herndon, 97

Margaret Christine Herndon, 97 of Fisherville passed away August 28, 2013 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville. She was a homemaker, farmer, and former dog warden of Spencer County. She was a member of Briar Ridge Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, growing gourds, canning and her flower garden. She was the daughter of the late Sol and Mattie Stone Stewart of Spencer County. 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Joseph W. Herndon; three sisters, Jeanette Bolin, Jean “Tootsie” Perkins, Daphnie Stamper; two brothers, T.J. Stewart and Foree Stewart.

She is survived by one daughter, Anna Mae Sanford (Eugene W.) of Fisherville; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. 

Services will take place Saturday August 31, at Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home with Sister Mavia Bennett officiating and a burial in Valley Cemetery. Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Winford Coleman Sweazy, 75

Winford Coleman Sweazy, 75, of Taylorsville, Kentucky entered his eternal home on Tuesday, the 6th day of August 2013, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville after a 20 month battle of colon cancer.  A lifelong resident of Spencer County, he is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn Ann Shelburne Sweazy and his daughter, Ruth Ann Sweazy of Taylorsville, and his son Eric Coleman Sweazy of Bloomfield. 

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, the 10th day of August, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Taylorsville with Brother Gary Mills officiating.  Interment will be in the Valley Cemetery at Taylorsville.  Visitation will be from 1:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, the 9th day of August, at Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville and on Saturday, the 10th day of August from 9:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.

Mrs. Martha Ann Helton Cox age 82 of Taylorsville, KY passed away Thursday August 1st, 2013 at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville.

She was born in Nelson County KY the daughter of the late Albert S. and Flora Hagan Helton .  She was a former employee of the Spencer Magnet, CG&Y and Wallace Nursery.  She was a member of the Elk Creek Baptist Church of Taylorsville. 

She is survived by her husband of 63 years G.C. Cox of Taylorsville 3 daughters Mrs. Patricia Manley of Taylorsville. Kathy Lewis of Taylorsville and Debbie Blandford (Steve) of Frankfort, KY.  2 brothers Tom Helton (Phyllis) of Bloomfield, KY and Joe Helton (Judy) of Taylorsville, KY.  5 grand children, 2 great grandchildren also survive.  Preceded in death by her parents and 1 son Ronnie Cox.  2 brothers James and Jessie Helton.

Mary Edith Waldridge, 90

Mary Edith Waldridge, 90, of Lawrenceburg passed away July 16, 2013 at her residence. Born in Spencer County, she was the daughter of the late Devert and Pearl Harley McGaughey. She was a home maker and member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Russell Waldridge; her sisters, Tillie Kelley and Edna Case; and her brothers, Lewis and Raymond McGaughey. 

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Thompson of Lawrenceburg; her two sons, Larry Waldridge (Clara) of Lawrenceburg, and Randy Waldridge (Mary) of Lawrenceburg; one brother, Marshall McGaughey (Louise); one sister-in-law, Anna Ruth McGaughey; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will take place Friday, July 19, at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Spencer County with Bros. Roger Thurman, Darrell McGaughey and Greg Taylor officiating and an interment in Valley Cemetery in Taylorsville.

Herbert G. Jones II,  88

Mr. Herbert G. Jones II  age 88 of Taylorsville, Ky passed away at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville on June 7, 2013. He was born in Zanesville, Oh to the late Gladstone Herbert  and Ida Mae McClellan Jones. he was retired from  A&M oil Co. of Taylorsville, a navy veteran of WWII and served on the USS Pennsicola, and a member of the Shelbyville Church of Christ.

He is survived by his daughters Lynn Faulkner (Marvin) Mcintosh of Taylorsville and Donna (MJ) Mayo of Taylorsville. one son Herbert (Julia) Jones III of Pleasant View, TN,  2 sisters Ardith (Jim) Bender of Vero Beach, FL and Glenna (Harold) Morrison of Ohio,
6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded by his parents, his wife Betty Lou Jones, sisters Deloris Baughman, Lois Neutzling and Phyllis Beech.

Annie Lee Goodlett, 78

Mrs. Annie Lee Goodlett, Age 78 of Mt. Eden, Ky.  passed away May 27, 2013 at Hospice Pallative care in Louisville, Ky.  She was the daughter of the late Raymond Hollis and Nettie Wood Curtsinger.  She was a homemaker and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter Marshelia (Embery) McAllister of Mt. Eden, Ky., her son Timothy (Ginger) Goodlett of Mt. Eden, Ky., one sister Alice (Tom) Kirsch of Shelbyville, Ky., 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren also survive.

She was precdeded in death by her parents, her husband, Lannas Goodlow Goodlett,  a son Lannas Keith Goodlett and a brother Raymond (Buddy) Curtsinger.

Visitation for Mrs. Annie Lee Goodlett will be 3-8 pm Wednesday May 29 and Thursday May 30 from 9 am until the funeral at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home who is in charge of the arrangements with Bro. Chad Goodlett officiating.

Barbara Eubank Shelburne, 79

A long time resident of Taylorsville, mrs. Barbara eubank Shelburne age 79 passed away peacefully at her residence on May 20, 2013. Mrs. Shelburne was a retired school teacher for the Spencer County school system and attended the Taylorsville first Christian church. She was born in Franklin, Ky and was a graduate of  Western Kentucky University. Mrs. Shelburne was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Shelburne  and  her parents Clay and Zelma Walker Eubank.

She is survived by her nephew Troy and his wife Susan Shelburne of Taylorsville and several other nieces and nephews.

 Earl Thomas  Simpson Jr. of  Taylorsville Kentucky, passed away at his residence in Taylorsville Ky., Monday, April 22, 2013.  He was born in Louisville Ky., & worked for Poly America.

He is survived by his wife Felicia Irene Simpson of Taylorsville Ky., his sons; Joshua Lomar Simpson of Louisville Ky., Rimone Fitzgerald Simpson of Taylorsville Ky., & Nicholas Shane Starks of Louisville Ky., his parents; Earl & Wanda Simpson Sr. of Louisville Ky., his sisters; Anita Louise Grant of Louisville Ky., Crystal Rae Simpson of Louisville Ky., & Vanda Kay Brock of Lagrange Ky., his brother; Claude Mitchell of Louisville Ky.,  3 grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother Rimone Fitzgerald Simpson.

 Dane Karlon Sheldon of Taylorsville Kentucky, passed away at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville Thursday, April 12, 2013.  He was born in Norwalk Ohio, & retired from Ford Motor Company.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years Linda Boyer Sheldon of Taylorsville Ky, his daughter; Alicia (Bob Jr.) Coots of Taylorsville Ky., his sons; Kyle (Julie) Sheldon of Louisville Ky., & Steven Sheldon of Louisville Ky., his mother Hazel Puder Sheldon of Strongsville Oh., his sister; Karen Zarzour of Strongsville Oh., his brother; Dwayne Sheldon of North Ridgeville Oh.,   2 grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Sheldon.

Mathis Wilbur Rogers, 94

 Mathis Wilbur Rogers of Taylorsville Kentucky, passed away at Signature Healthcare of Taylorsville Thursday, March 28, 2013.  He was born in Anderson County Ky. to the late Henry Mathis & Lena Belle Cunningham Rogers, and a native of Spencer County Ky., retired from Armour Meat Packing Company & a life long farmer.  Mr. Rogers was a member of Briar Ridge Christian Church and former sexton of the Briar Ridge Christian Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years Pauline Rogers of Taylorsville Ky, his daughters; Sue (J.B.) Walls of Taylorsville Ky., Nadine (Russ) Jarvis of Wilkinson IN., Gale (Jerry) Morris of Ashland Ky., & Kim Mardis of Elizabethtown Ky., 12 grandchildren, & 9 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Christine Rogers, his brother Floyd Rogers & his son in law James Mardis.

Visitation for Mathis Wilbur Rogers will be Saturday March 30, 2013 from 3pm-8pm, Sunday March 31, 2013 from 4pm-8pm at Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home and Monday April 1, 2013 10am till funeral time at 2pm at Briar Ridge Christian Church in Spencer County, with Brother Lonnie McNabb & Brother Eugene Neyhart officiating.  Burial will follow in the Briar Ridge Christian Church Cemetery. Johnny Bruce Thurman, 77

 Johnny Bruce Thurman of Shelbyville Kentucky, passed away at his residence Saturday March 9, 2013.  He was a native of Lewis County Ky., retired truck driver of Overnite Transportation after 15 years of service, and a former employee of Ohio Valley Aluminum of Shelbyville.  Mr. Thurman attended Shelbyville Church of God, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming & gardening. 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Bonnie Louise Howard Thurman  of Shelbyville Ky, his daughters; Brenda Thurman of Shelbyville Ky., & Linda Shelton of Mocksville NC., son; Roger Thurman of Taylorsville Ky., brother; Virgil Thurman of Ohio,  7 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents George Turner & Hattie Brewer Thurman, his son Richard Lee Thurman, his sisters; Ellen Thurman Nora Correll, Geraldine Cole, Nellie Walters, brothers; William, Howard, Harold, Robert, Clark, & Wayne Thurman. 

Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Shannon Funeral Home in Shelbyville, with Brother Roger Thurman officiating and burial in Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Visitation will be Tuesday March 12, 2013 from 3pm-8pm and after 10am at Shannon Funeral Home.  The family requests memorial contributions to be made to Hospice of Louisville or the Alzheimer’s Association.  Plummer Campbell Smither Jr. of Taylorsville Kentucky, passed away at his residence Wednesday February 27, 2013.  He was a native of Jefferson County Ky, an Air Force Veteran, retired Vice President of Labor Relations for LG&E.

He is survived by his wife; Audrea Sessions Smither of Taylorsville Ky, daughters; Kathy Dorman of Bloomfield Ky., & Cindy Murray of Frankfort Ky., 3 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents Plummer & Cleora Aline Krieger Smither Sr.

 Cremation was chosen.  A memorial service for Mr. Plummer Campbell Smither Jr. will be held at a later date.  The family requests memorial contributions to be made to the American Heart Association. Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



 
Lester Jessie Tindle Sr., 93

 Lester Jessie Tindle Sr. of Shelbyville Kentucky, passed away Sunday February 24, 2013 at Crestview Healthcare.  He was a native of Spencer County Ky, an Army Veteran, retired farmer and a member of the Little Mount Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years; Juanita Burgin Tindle of Shelbyville Ky, sons; R.E., Boyce, Ed, & Lester Jr. all of Taylorsville Ky, and Terry Tindle of Shelbyville Ky., brothers; Paul Tindle of Taylorsville Ky., David Tindle of Wilmore Ky., Bernice Tindle of Shelbyville Ky., 10 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren, & 9 Great-Great Grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond & Iva Brooks Tindle, brothers; Cecil & Earl Tindle and Grandson Todd Tindle.

 Betty Frances Shelburne, of Taylorsville Kentucky, passed away Friday February 15, 2013, at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville Ky.  She was born in Taylorsville KY.  She was a homemaker and she was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by her daughters; Judy Netherton of Taylorsville Ky., Theresa Murphy of Mt Eden, Annette Shelburne of Mt Eden, Her sons; Jessie Shelburne of Mt Eden, & Brian Shelburne of Mt Eden Ky., Her sisters; Wilma Pearl Goodlett., & Hazel Rosetta Thompson, Her brothers; Eddie Ray Goodlett,  Alpheus Eugene Goodlett , 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; Raymond & Annie Pearl Inghram Goodlett, Her sisters; Cora Mae, Anita Florence t, & Velinda Mae Goodlett,  Her brothers; Leonard, Hubert Allen, Verdman O’Dell, Lebert Carlton, James Garnett, & John Richard Goodlett.

 Dorney Gene Roberts, of Taylorsville Kentucky, passed away Friday February 8, 2013, in Sanders Ky.  He was born in Shelby County KY. 

He is survived by his sisters; Glenna Taylor of Bardstown Ky, Martha Joyce Roberts of Shelbyville Ky., Loretta Young of Louisville Ky., Katie Roberts of Richmond Ky., Earl Dorothy Miller of Louisville Ky., Bonnie Saunders of Louisville Ky., Barbara Joe Phillips of Louisville Ky., Brother; Hugh Roberts Jr. of Bardstown Ky., & William Thomas Roberts of Shelbyville Ky..  He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh & Dorothy Avery Roberts.

Leslie Carol Elder, 39

 Leslie Carol Elder, of Bardstown Kentucky, passed away Tuesday January 15, 2013, at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville Ky as a result of injuries sustained in an industrial accident at the Flowers Bakery in Bardstown.  She was born in Louisville Kentucky and native to Spencer County Kentucky.  She was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church.

She is survived by her Daughter, Grace Elder of Bardstown Ky, Father Dutch Elder of Taylorsville Ky, Sister Lee Ann (Destry) Naylor of Jacksonville FL., and her companion Shawn McLaughin of Bardstown Ky. She is preceded in death by her mother Frances Auberry Elder, and her brother Tom Elder. 

 Visitation for Ms. Elder will be held on Thursday January 17, 2013, 5 pm–8pm, and Friday January 18, 2013 12-8 pm at the Greenwell Houghlin Funeral Home.  A prayer service will be at 7pm Friday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Saturday January 19, 2013, 10 pm at All Saints Catholic Church with Father Tom Clark as celebrant, and burial following at Valley Cemetery in Taylorsville Ky.  Ethel Marie Burns, of Taylorsville Kentucky, passed away Saturday January 5, 2013, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville Ky.  She was born in Spencer County KY.  She was a homemaker and she was a member of the Little Union Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Leon Burns of Taylorsville Ky., Her son Terry Burns of Taylorsville Ky., Her sisters; Mildred Sewell of Mt. Washington Ky., Ada Couch of Taylorsville Ky., Vivian Shelburne of Louisville Ky., & Betty Brown of Taylorsville Ky., Her brother Curtis Moore, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; Noah & Ethel Pearl Welch Moore, her sister Virginia Higgs, her brothers Abe Joe Moore, Noah Jr. Moore, J.P. Moore, & Malclom Moore.

 Edward Rayon Nichols, of Lagrange Kentucky, passed away Saturday January 5, 2013, in Munfordville Ky.  He was born in Spencer County KY.  He served his country in the Army & Airforce, also he was a member of the Buckner Baptist Church, and he worked at the Lewis Seed Company.

He is survived by his daughters; Gail Strode & her companion Danny Philpott of Munfordville Ky. & Jane (Kent) Roby of Mt. Washington Ky., His son, William Henry Nichols of Lagrange Ky., His sister, Anna Jane Harris of Crestwood Ky. 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Rachael Mobley, his parents, John Salem & Lula Frances McGaughey Nichols, his daughters Katherine Lee Nichols & Crystal Lee Nichols, his brother Henry Harland Nichols, and his sister Mary Catherine Nichols.
