Kenneth Lee Klapper Sr., 58

A Nazareth resident Mr. Kenneth Lee Klapper Sr. age 58 passed July 8, 2012 at his residence.  He was a native of Louisville and a former C.N.A. until he retired due to health problems.  

He is survived by his children Kenneth Lee Klapper Jr of Louisville his daughter Becky LeeAnn Rucker of Louisville and his mother Betty Jean Elzy Klapper of Brooks, KY.

Virginia Mae Barnes, 83

A former Bardstown resident Virginia Mae Barnes age 83 passed away Sunday July 8, 2012 in Lexington.  She was a native of Spencer County, worked at U.K. in food service and was a member of The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church.  She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Theodore “Ted” Barnes, her parents Frank and Clydia Reynolds Jury, sisters Aline Ice, Mary Darnell, Martha Marks and brothers Frank Jury, Theodore Jury, Billy Jury and Joe Jury.

She is survived by her daughter Sue (Marty) Dailey of Lexington and her grandson Benjamin(Alyssum) Bryant of Monterey, CA.

Funeral services will be Wednesday July 11, 2012 at 3:00PM at Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home with Bro. Ella Rose Auberry

Infant Ella Rose Auberry passed away at Norton’s Hospital in Louisville on July 5th 2012, leaving behind to cherish her memory her parents, Robert “Bear” Auberry and Harmony Rose Taylor of Bardstown. 

Her paternal grandparents Billy and Tanya Auberry of Bardstown, Maternal grandparents Richard Paul Taylor of Bardstown and Rose Dean of Shepherdsville.  She is also survived by her uncle Richard Dylan Taylor of Murray State University and her aunt Jasmine Frances Taylor of Calvary.  A graveside service will be held Sunday July 8th at 2:00pm at Bardstown Cemetery with Fr. Jeff Hopper officiating. A reception will follow at St. Gregory’s fellowship hall in Samuels.

Dominic Marquez Allen, 24

A Bardstown resident Dominic Marquez Allen age 24 passed away on Wednesday July 4, 2012 after a traffic accident in Grayson County.  He was a 2006 graduate of Bardstown High School, was an assistant manager for Long John Silvers/A&W Restaurant and a member of St. John’s A.M.E. Zion Church.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Richard Allen, Hubert and Dana Stewart and an Uncle Gregory Allen.  He is survived by his sons: Cameron & Jeremiah Allen both of Bardstown, his parents Minister Ernest and Patricia Allen Baker of Bardstown, his sister Taiyana Allen of Bardstown, a brother Ernest Cornell Baker of Bardstown, maternal grandmother Estelle Allen of Bardstown. Also survived by two nieces and one nephew,

several aunts, uncles a host of cousins and a dear friend Ronesha Gilbert of Bardstown.

Funeral services will be Monday July 9, 2012 at Noon from the Bardstown 1st Baptist Church at 315 N. 2nd St., with his father Minister Ernest Baker officiating.  Burial will be in Bardstown Cemetery. Dr. Emmett Whitford Wood,  88

A Bardstown resident Dr. Emmett Whitford Wood age 88 passed away Monday June 25, 2012 at his residence.  Dr. Wood was a native of Water Valley, MS., obtained his AB in Zoology and MS in Education at University of Southern California his MD at University Tennessee College of Medicine and was elected by faculty of Medical School Alpha Omega Alpha honor Medical Society.   Dr. Wood served our country by joining the Navy as Pharmacists Mate first class for 31/2 years, 2 years with USMC as detached duty with Fleet Marine Force, 20 months overseas with USMC in Solomon Islands as Navy Corpsman. He served the community of Bardstown from May 1, 1960 until November 1, 1998 when he retired after 38 years of faithful service. In his service to the medical field he was a member several medical societies such as a life member of KY Medical Assn., life member of American Medical Assn., life member of American Academy of Family Physicians, Fellow American Academy of Family Physicians, Diplomatic American Board of Family Practice, past Secretary and President of Medical Staff Flaget Hospital.

He is preceded in death by his wife Joan Lucille Smith Wood, his parents Clarence Emmett and Christine Whitford Wood. He is survived by his three children Pamela Jo Wood Gover, Emmett Grant”Woody”(Terry) Wood, and Ward Whitford”Bubba”(Glennyce)Wood all of Bardstown and his five grandchildren Grant W. Gover, Jonathan David Wood, Zachary Tyler Wood, Alex Wood and Bella Wood.

At Dr. Wood’s request cremation was chosen with no public visitation or memorial service.

Richard Theodore “Ted” Barnes,  84

Lexington resident Richard Theodore “Ted” Barnes age 84 passed away Thursday June 14, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.  He was a Bardstown native, a self employed realtor, an Army Veteran of World War II and a member of The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Jury Barnes of Lexington, his daughter Sue(Marty) Dailey of Lexington, his two sisters Victoria Montgomery of Henderson, Clara Breed of Maud, Texas, 1 brother James Barnes of Louisville and his grandson Benjamin(Alyssum) Bryant of Montray, CA.

James Richard Clayton Sr., 75

A Bardstown resident James Richard Clayton Sr., age 75 passed away Monday May 21, 2012 at Flaget Memorial Hospital.  He was a self employed tree surgeon, a Marine Veteran of the Korean War and of the Catholic faith. 

He is survived by 4 sons: James Richard Clayton Jr., of Mont Clair, VA., John Clayton of Cox’s Creek, Kerry Lee Clayton of Lancaster, CA., Charles Anthony Clayton of Japan and 2 daughters Betty Jean Clayton of North Carolina and Naomi Verlee Avila of Bardstown, 2 brothers Donald Clayton of Louisville and Bobby Clayton of Indiana.  He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. The family has chosen cremation a memorial service will be held 11 am. Friday June 15, 2012 at Lebanon National Cemetery.

David “Big Dave” Douglas Parker, 54

A Bardstown resident David “Big Dave” Douglas Parker age 54 passed Wednesday June 6, 2012 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.  He was born January 2, 1958 in Atlanta, GA., to Edward Otto Douglas and Oma Lee Douglas Maddox. On July 3rd 1993 he married Wanda Hamilton Parker and was employed by Life Care of Bardstown and was a veteran of the United States Army. He is preceded in death by his father Edward Otto Douglas.

He is survived by his wife Wanda Hamilton Parker, his mother Oma Lee Douglas Maddox, his stepchildren Chad Hamilton of Louisville, Chris Hamilton, Alan Hamilton and Stephanie Hamilton all of Bardstown along with 13 grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brothers Danny Ray Parker of Chicago, James Douglas of Bardstown, Freddrick Douglas of California and several nephews and nieces. 

Cremation was chosen by the family a memorial service will be held 10:00am Saturday June 9, 2012 at Nelson County Baptist Church.  Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

 

Shirley Ann Jury,  74

A Bardstown resident Shirley Ann Jury age 74 passed Wednesday May 30, 2012 at Flaget Memorial Hospital.  She was a native of Nelson County a loving homemaker and a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church.  She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Allen “Bobby” Jury, her parents Elder Manuel & Margaret Louise Nalley, a sister Barbara “Bobbie” Schure, and 2 brothers Tommy and Elmer “Tug” Nalley.

She is survived by 5 daughters Sharon Blaine of Bardstown, Karen (Kendall) Coleman of Lebanon Junction, Judy (Mike) Osborne of Bardstown, Carolyn (Wendall) Ennis of Boston, Barbara Cissell of Bardstown, 2 sons Richard (Carla) Jury of Bardstown, and Robert (Wanda) Jury of Cox’s Creek.  She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday June 1, 2012 at 10:00am at St. Gregory Catholic Church with Fr. David Earl Lyvers, 50

A former Bardstown resident David Earl Lyvers age 50 passed away Monday May 28, 2012 at  Springfield Nursing and Rehab Facility and of the Catholic faith.  He is preceded in death by a brother Tony Lyvers and a sister Joann Downs. 

He is survived by his daughter Treca Metcalf of New Haven, his mother Betty Dragoo of Bardstown and his father David Russell Lyvers of Bardstown, 1 sister Pam Valley of Bardstown, 4 brothers: Todd Lyvers of Ohio, Scotty & Mike Lyvers both of Bardstown and Roger Lyvers of New Haven and 2 grandchildren.

Catherine Amelia Linton, 83

A Bardstown resident, Mrs. Catherine Amelia Linton, age 83, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was the former Catherine Lamar, a native of Bardstown and a member of the St. Monica Catholic Church and a retired domestic.

She was the daughter of the late Will Bradley and Mary Helen Hammonds Lamar, and was preceded in death by her husband; Lee Thomas Linton, a daughter; Margaret Diane Linton, 2 brothers; John Thomas Lamar and William A. Brewer, and a grandson; Bradley Thomas Butler.

She is survived by 6 daughters; Wanda Linton, Martha Linton, Shirley Linton, Jacqueline Linton, Carolyn (William) Drake, Partricia Butler Linton, all of Bardstown, 3 sons; William Linton, Kenneth (Kim) Linton, both of Bardstown and David Linton of Lexington. 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

A mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Catherine Amelia Linton will be Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM from the St. Monica Catholic Church with Fr. Jeff Hopper officiating. Elizabeth “Libby” Cecelia Elliott

A former Bardstown resident Elizabeth “Libby” Cecelia Elliott passed away Wednesday May 16, 2012 at DuPont Hospital in Ft. Wayne, IN.  She was the former Libby Allen, graduate of Rutgers College in New Jersey, worked for such organizations as KY Alliance and the NAACP was awarded volunteer of the Year by NAACP and a former member of St. Monica Catholic Church. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Richard Greenwell & Florence Cecelia Lydian Allen a brother Richard “RC” Allen and two sisters Eva Mae Stone and Sue Willie Allen.

She is survived by her husband George Deo Elliott of Tuscon, AZ., 3 sons Bryan “Lisa”, Craig and Terrance Elliott all of Louisville, her sisters Carrie Stivers of Bardstown and Daisy Jean Allen of Louisville.  She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a host of cousins, aunts and uncles.

Robert Lewis Pennington, 70

A Bardstown resident, Mr. Robert Lewis Pennington age 70, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012 at his residence. He was a native of Woodford County, a former employee of the Kentucky Department of Transportation, a farmer, and was a member of the Bloomfield Church of God of Prophecy.

He was the son of the late John and Dorothy McIntosh Pennington and was preceded in death by a brother; John Clifford.

He is survived by his wife; Robbie Hood Pennington, a daughter; Teresa (Ricky) Prewitt of Bardstown, 2 brothers; Clyde (Susie) Pennington and David (Ruby) Pennington, both of Bardstown, and 2 grandchildren; Travis and Trevor Prewitt, both of Bardstown.

Anne “Rita” Dobson, 59

A Louisville resident Mrs. Anne “Rita” Dobson age 59 passed Tuesday May 8, 2012 at her residence.  She was the former Rita Lanham of Bardstown. After receiving her Masters of Education she began her teaching career with the Archdiocese of Louisville and taught for 36 years including St. Polycarp and Holy Cross Catholic Schools. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by her father A.D. Lanham and her sister Rose Marie Lanham. She is survived by her loving husband John Robert Dobson, her daughters: Sarah Elaine Dobson and Lauren Allysia Dobson, her son John Steven Alexander Dobson all of Louisville and her step son Richard Graham Hipsh of Dallas, Texas and 5 step grandchildren.  She is also survived by her mother Ann Marie Conely Lanham of Bardstown,  two sisters: Mary “Mike” Clapp of Mayfield, Margaret “Fred” Avis of Cox’s Creek, her seven brothers: Jimmy “Jacki” Lanham Ohio, John Lanham of Bardstown, Joe Ed “Sharon” Lanham of Bloomfield, Keith Lanham, Mike “Kaye” Lanham, Maurice “Tammy” Lanham and Scott Lanham all of Bardstown.

Barbara Jean Donahue, 62

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Barbara Jean Donahue age 62 passed away Friday May 4, 2012 at Flaget Memorial Hospital.  She was born in Manton, KY retired in 1999 from Owens Illinois was a member of St. Vincent DePaul in New Hope and hand made over a 1000 in memory bears as a fund raiser for Nelson County Relay for Life.

She was the daughter of the late Edward & Alice McIntyre Kelty. She is survived by her husband Thomas C. “Tommy” Donahue, her daughter Melissa Jo (Scott Landram) Newton of Bardstown, her son Anthony “Tony” Dale (Michelle) Kelty of Lebanon, 2 sisters Judy (Borgia)Nalley of Holy Cross, Dorothy (Teddy) Marshall of Bardstown and her brother Charles Kelty of Holy Cross. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren.

Lois Ann “Sissy” Tabor,  65

An Elizabethtown resident, Ms. Lois Ann “Sissy” Tabor, age 65, passed away Tuesday May 2, 2012 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. She was a native of Louisville KY, a former Bardstown resident, a graduate of the special needs class at Fairdale High School, and helped work at the family owned grocery store in Botland.

She was the daughter of the late Oscar Noble and Mary Rose Meyer Tabor, and is preceded in death by 3 brothers; Daniel A. Tabor, James L. Tabor, and John L. Tabor. 

She is survived by 2 brothers; Roy (Verna) Tabor of Cecelia, KY., Mike (Teresa) Tabor of Hodgenville, 2 sisters; Jackie Ridgeway of Elizabethtown, Dolly (Tom) Thelen of Woodbridge, VA., a sister in law; Marlene Tabor of Brooks, KY. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive.

Julia Elizabeth Poynter, 86

A Bardstown resident, Mrs. Julia Elizabeth Poynter age 86, passed away Friday April 20, 2012 at her residence. She was the former Julia Elizabeth Conner, a native of Nelson County, a member of St. John AME Zion Church, a member of the Abraham Lincoln American Legion Post 167 Ladies Auxiliary, and a retired domestic.

She was the daughter of the late Edward and Florida M. Irvine Conner and was preceded in death by her husband; James C. Poynter, a son; Joseph Edward Poynter and a grandson; Nathan Labrent Mudd.

She is survived by 3 sons; James L. (Ethel) Poynter of Louisville, John C. (Laura) Poynter of Bardstown, Charles Arron Poynter of Radcliff, 2 daughters; Sue Rena Adams and Catherine (David) Lydian both of Bardstown, and 23 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren also survive. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Elizabeth Poynter will be Wednesday April 25, 2012 at 1:00 PM from the St. John AME Zion Church with Rev. Samuel Harris officiating. Mary Beatrice Fields, 89

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Mary Beatrice Fields age 89 passed away Thursday March 29, 2012 at Life Care of Bardstown.  She was the former Beatrice Welch a native of Nelson County a retired employee of Jim Beams Distillery a former employee of TW Samuels and Bardstown Sewing Factory. She was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church and the Alter Society of St. Gregory.

She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin Thomas Fields, a son Keith Fields, her parents Russell & Omie Clark Welch, her sister Myrtle Sinclair and brother Marvin Welch.

She is survived by 3 daughters Brenda (Frank) Stallings of Cox’s Creek, Wanda (Jimmy) Gilpin of Bardstown, Rita (Steve) Smith of Bardstown, 2 sons Wilford Fields and Gary (Kathy) Fields both of Deatsville. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be Monday April 2, 2012 at 10:00AM at St. Gregory Catholic Church  Fr. John Schwartzlose celebrant and Fr. Culpepper Elliott concelebrant. James Bernard “Jimmy” Houck, 81

A Bardstown resident Mr. James Bernard “Jimmy” Houck age 81 passed away Saturday March 24, 2012 at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown KY. He was a native of Indianapolis, IN., a United States Marines Veteran serving in the Korean War, and former owner of Rock Drilling Inc.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Everett B. and Ada Clements Houck and his wife, Bonnie Lou Reed Houck. 
He is survived by his daughter; Donna Gritton of Bardstown and 4 grandchildren; Lindsey Gritton, Sean Gritton, Justin Gritton, and Josh Gritton, all of Bardstown. 

A Memorial service will be held Friday March 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Bardstown Cemetery. Cremation was chosen by the family.

Mary Catherine “Katie” Barnes,  77

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Mary Catherine “Katie” Barnes, age 77, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012 at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY. She was the former Mary Catherine Harrell, a native of Nelson County, a retired employee at Inonac Packing, and a member of the First Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

She was the daughter of the late John E. and Della Case Harrell and was preceded in death by 9 brothers, 2 sisters, and a grandson; Chad Wright. Survivors include 3 daughters; Brenda Smith of Bardstown, Sheila (David) Cassell of Owensboro, Michelle (Robert) Burkhead of Leitchfield, a son; Shelby (Connie) Barnes of Bardstown, a sister; Lil (Bill) Thompson of Bloomfield, a brother; Carl Harrell of Bardstown, 8 grandchildren; Blake Cassell, Ali (Ron) Cassell, Ethan Barnes, Jared Barnes, Adam Barnes, Katelyn Burkhead, Dylan Burkhead, Dustin Burkhead and 2 great grandchildren also survive.

Elizabeth Geraldine “Geri” Hatfield,  89

A Bardstown resident, Mrs. Elizabeth Geraldine “Geri” Hatfield, age 89, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012 at the residence of her daughter in Cox’s Creek. She was the former Geri Downs, a native of Nelson County, a retired employee of Barton Brands LTD., and the Hampton Inn. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Alter Society, she faithfully helped open the church for morning mass, and was a member of the St. Jude Society at St. Joseph. She was the daughter of the late William Wallace and Louella Newton Downs, and was preceded in death by her husband William Earl “Dude” Hatfield, 9 brothers, 1 sister, a grandson; Coleman Collins, and a son-in-law; Donald Hahn.

Survivors include 4 daughters; Alice N. Hahn, Mary (Wayne) Collins, Vicki (Tom) Greer, all of Bardstown, and Tana (Hammer) Allgeier of Cox’s Creek, 6 sons; Jim (Nita) Nalley of Frankfort, Joe Bob (Paula) Nalley of Bardstown, Greg (Ellen) Hatfield of Gallatin TN., Ronnie (Lori) Hatfield, Dwayne (Renee) Hatfield both of Bardstown, Kevin (Glenda) Hatfield of Louisville, 3 brothers; Billy (Wanda) Downs, Theodore (Elsie) Downs and Frank Downs, all of Bardstown, 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren also survive.

A mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Elizabeth Geraldine “Geri” Hatfield will be celebrated Monday, March 26, 2012 at 11:00 AM from the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral. Fr. Shawna Renee Ebrecht,  37

A Bardstown resident, Mrs. Shawna Renee Ebrecht, age 37, passed away Wednesday March 21, 2012 at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was the former Shawna Renee Helm, a native of Louisville, KY, a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith.

She is preceded in death by her father; Lester Steven Helm. She is survived by her husband; George Ebrecht, her mother; Janice Wilson of Louisville, 2 step-daughters; Heather (Todd) Garrett, Sabrina (Eddie) Rivera, both of Louisville, a step-son; Lee Ebrecht of Bardstown, 2 sisters; Stefanie (David) Reeves of Louisville, Tonya (Darrell) Singleton of Smyrna TN., and 2 brothers; “Little Billy” Singleton of Louisville and Wayne (Laverne) Swartz of Shepherdsville. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Ronald Lee Jennette Sr.,  67

A Bardstown resident, Mr. Ronald Lee Jennette Sr. age 67, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012 in Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was a native of Louisville, a self-employed mechanic, a retired employee of Norton-Suburban Hospital in the housekeeping department, and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was the son of the late Clarence Edward and Clara Hall Jennette and was preceded in death by a grandson; Anthony Farmer. 

He is survived by his wife; Dorthy Powers Jennette, 2 daughters; Crystal Jennette of Bardstown and Deborah (Steven) Donahue of Louisville, 2 sons; Ronald L. Jennette Jr. of Bardstown, and Thomas (Shannon) Jennette of Louisville, a sister; Norma (Johnny) Morrison of Louisville, a brother; Clarence (Doris) Jennette of Louisville, 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren also survive.

Bonnie Lou Houck, 77

 A Bardstown resident Bonnie Lou Houck age 77 passed away Thursday February 23, 2012 at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was the former Bonnie Reed a native of Nelson County, was a homemaker and member of the Woodlawn Beech Fork United Methodist Church. 

She is preceded in death by her parents J.T. & Zelma Godbey Reed.  She is survived by her husband Jimmy Houck, one daughter Donna Gritton of Bardstown, 2 sisters: Sue(Glen) Downs of Bardstown, Shirley (Charles) Boone of Louisville, one brother Tommy (Sue) Reed of Bardstown, 4 grandchildren Lindsey Gritton, Sean Gritton, Justin Gritton and Josh Gritton.

Raymond Frederick Cothern, 69

A Boston resident Raymond Frederick Cothern age 69 passed away Wednesday February 22, 2012 at Flaget Memorial Hospital.  He was a native of Bullitt County, a self employed painter and a member of the Lebanon Junction Church of God of Prophecy.

He is preceded in death by his parents Virgil Edward and Eunice Cothern.  He is survived by 3 sisters: Patricia Sullivan of Elizabethtown, Penny Chance of Vine Grove, and Sue Hack of Elizabethtown and one brother Mark Cothern of Lebanon Junction.

Cremation was chosen by the family and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

A Bardstown resident Mr. Edward M. (Ed) Carty Jr. age 66 passed away Tuesday February 21, 2012 at his residence.  He was a native of Greenville, KY.  retired after 28 years of teaching with the Nelson County Board of Education taught 2 years in Greenville, KY., was a retired member of the N.E.A., the Nelson County Retired Teachers Association, a KY. Colonel and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents Edward M.Sr. & Learlean Oglesby Carty.  He is survived by his son Zachary (Sonja) Thompson Carty of Bardstown and his daughter Spring Marie Carty of Baltimore, Md.  A Graveside service will be Monday February 27th at 11:30 CST at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in White Plains, KY.

Lt. Colonel (Retired) Donald Dean Goodin,76

Lt. Colonel (Retired) Donald Dean Goodin age 76 of  Boston KY., passed away Thursday February 9, 2012 at his residence. He was a native of Beardstown, Ill., he served 4 years in the United States Army, 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, retired President of San Bernardino Valley Water District with 16 years of service, was a Director for Nelson Co. Air Board and attended Youngers Creek Baptist Church. He was also a Mason and a Shriner.

He is preceded in death by his parents Chester Lewis and Helen Louise Phillips Goodin and one brother Ronald Lee Goodin.
He is survived by his wife Linda Brown Goodin, his daughter Patricia Lynn(Larry) Reimann of  Dallas, Texas, his son David Scott(Laurie)Goodin of Dallas, Texas, his sister Dorothy Mae Goodin, his brother William Edward(Diane) Goodin of Sand Springs, Texas and one granddaughter Peyton Goodin.

Anne Elizabeth Evans,  80

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Anne Elizabeth Evans age 80, passed away Monday Feb. 5, 2012 in Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY. She was the former Anna Elizabeth Lewis, a native of Nelson County, KY, a retired domestic and had cared for numerous children in her lifetime. She was a faithful member of St. Monica Catholic Church and a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth Wilson Lewis and was preceded in death by her husband Thomas “Tennessee Tom” Evans and a brother Albert “Sonny” Lewis. 

She is survived by 2 daughters; Patricia Ann Gales of Bardstown, Benita Marie (Greg) Burch of Lebanon, KY, 2 sons; John Albert (Ella) Scott of Oklahoma City, OK., Harold Joseph (Michelle) Scott of Elizabethtown, KY. 1 sister; Katherine Hughes of Fairfield, KY, 1 brother; Thomas (Mae) Lewis of Indianapolis IN., 19 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

A Bardstown resident, Mrs. Christine Ellen Price, age 89, passed away Friday, February 3, 2012 at University of Louisville Hospital. She was the former Christine Ellen Smith, a native of Nelson County, a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith. 

She is preceded in death by her husband; Marvin Price, her parents; John & Hester Waldridge Smith, a daughter; Sharon Price, 3 sisters; Mazetta Hardin, Lil Janes, Gertrude Smith-Young, and 4 brothers; Everett Smith, Gilbert “Red” Smith, Robert Smith, and Donnie “Q-Ball” Smith. She is survived by a daughter; Joyce Price of Bardstown, 7 sons; Kenny (Kay) Beam of Lebanon Junction, Terry (Beverly) Price, Gary (Sherry) Price, Wayne Price, Ralph Price, Tommy (Charlene) Price, Jerry Price, all of Bardstown, a sister; Nancy Blaine of Louisville, a brother; Charlie (Mary) Smith of Bardstown, 27 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren also survive.

Mary Theresa Boone, 91

Mrs. Mary Theresa Boone age 91 went to be with her Lord on Monday January 30, 2012 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. She was the former Mary Theresa Fields a native of Marion County, KY., and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in New Hope.  She was an active worker in the church for many years and had worked in food service at St. Vincent de Paul school.

She is preceded in death by her husband Marion Ignatius Boone, her parents: Walter and Angie Cusick Fields, 2 sisters Anna  B. White and Juanita White, and a daughter Ann Mattingly.

She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Frances(Jerome)Boone  Goodman of  Elizabethtown and Mrs. Mary (Jeff) Thomas of Bardstown, and also a son-in-law Joe Mattingly of Bardstown. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and  8 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, all who will greatly miss her hugs and kisses.

David Lee Hall,  78

 A Bardstown resident Mr. David Lee Hall, age 78, passed away Saturday January 14, 2012. in Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.  He was a native of Nelson Co., a retired truck driver for Heaven Hill Distillery, an Air Force Veteran and was of the Baptist faith. 

He was the son of the late Lee Robinson and Treasey Hines Hall and was preceded in death by 2 daughters-Kathy Mudd and Betty Lou Tinnell and his first wife Eleanor Grace Hall.  He is survived by his wife Ruth Wood Hall, 1 daughter Nancy Lynn (Eddie) Greenwell and 1 son Steven Hall all of Bardstown. 3 Step-sons Richard (Tammy) Terry of Florida, Scott (Sara) Terry of Louisiana and Matthew Terry of Bardstown.  1 sister-Sarah Ann Seward of New Haven,KY. 4 Grandchildren Melissa Woodson, Jody Lee Tinnell, Jamie and Lacey Tinnell and 15 great-grandchildren also survive.

Carolyn Briggs Hutcherson, 91

Carolyn Briggs Hutcherson, 91, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, January 4, 2012.  Born September 11, 1920 to the late Malcolm D and Myrtle Dadisman Briggs, she was married for 36 years to Richard N. Hutcherson until his death in 1981.  She was a 1938 graduate of Bardstown High School and worked at Bardstown Elementary for many years as a Teacher’s Aid. A member of First Christian Church Bardstown for 80 years, she served as a Sunday School Teacher and in numerous other roles.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Butler. 

Survivors include son Doug (Gayle) Hutcherson of Lexington, daughter Pat (Ken) Neyens of Fairfield Glade, TN, granddaughter Anne Martin, grandson Paul (Mandy) Hutcherson, and two great-grandsons Will and Lane Martin.

The funeral service, conducted by Dr. Peter F. (“Rick”) Loader, Sr. Minister of First Christian Church, will be at Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home, 627 North Main St Bardstown at 11 AM on Saturday January 7th. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday January 6th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday morning from 8:00 AM until 11 AM.  Burial will be in the Bardstown Cemetery.

Dewey Kempton Vincent Sr., 87

A Cox’s Creek resident, Mr. Dewey Kempton Vincent Sr., age 87, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at his residence. He was a native of Edmonson County, a retired maintenance supervisor for Armor Elevator, and Brown Foreman Distillery. He was an army veteran of WWII, having fought at the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, and Ardennes. He was a member of Duvall Masonic Lodge #6, a 32nd degree Mason, and a Shriner. 

He was the son of the late George Rex and Rosa York Vincent, and was preceded in death by a daughter; Wanda Sue Vincent, a sister; Beulah Graham, and a brother; Kelly Vincent. He is survived by his wife; Effie Johnson Vincent, 4 sons; Dewey K. (Brenda Sue) Vincent Jr., James (Kathy) Vincent, Robert (Robyn) Vincent, and Ronnie (Rita) Vincent, all of Louisville. One grandchild, 2 step-grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild also survive.

Jason David Brown, 31

A Bardstown resident Jason David Brown age 31 passed away Sunday December 18, 2011 from injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident.  He was a construction foreman for United Construction Design, LLC of Louisville.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Gus Brown and his maternal grandparents Dorothy Hardin Beck and W.C. Hardin.
He is survived by his parents David and Connie Hardin Brown of Bardstown, his sisters Christie(Todd) Whigham Ramsey of Louisville and Mandie Whigham of Bardstown, his nieces Brooke Ramsey and Madison Ramsey his nephew Zachary Whigham. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother Faye Brown of Bardstown.

Willie Ray Ferguson, 81

A Bardstown resident, Mr. Willie Ray Ferguson, age 81, passed away, Friday, December 2, 2011 at University of Louisville Hospital. He was a native of Ezel Kentucky, a retired farmer, and a member of The Peoples Church of Bardstown. 

He is survived by his daughters; Billie Jo (BJ) Medley of Loreto KY, Minnie Lou Ferguson of Traverse City, MI, a brother; Virgil Ferguson of Morehead KY, and a special companion; Mildred Damron of Bardstown.

Billy Gene “Billy G.” Hobbs Sr., 78

A Bardstown resident Mr. Billy Gene “Billy G.” Hobbs Sr. age 78 passed away Wednesday November 30, 2011 at Robley Rex Veterans Hospital Louisville.  He was a native of Chaplin, KY., retired from Jim Beam Distillery as a messenger after 41 and half years of service, an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Radcliff Methodist Church, the American Legion Post #113 of Elizabethtown, and a volunteer for the Veteran Homeless Task Force.

He is preceded in death by his parents James William & Evelyn Perkins Hobbs.

He is survived by his daughter Tammy Perkins of Shepherdsville, his son Billy G. (Arlana) Hobbs Jr., of   Mt. Washington, very special friend Darlene Ellis of Simpsonville, brother Bobby Hobbs of Bardstown, his 4 grandchildren Jannah Perkins, Joshua Perkins, Troy (Allison) Hobbs and Kaitlyn Hobbs.  He is also survived by his nephew Brian Hobbs and great nephew Zachary Hobbs.

She was the former Betty Scamahorn, a native of Nelson County, a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; Joseph and Ruby Baker Scamahorn, and a daughter; Stephanie Marie Vittitoe. She is survived by her husband, Alvin Vittitoe, a daughter; Michelle Vittitoe of Radcliffe, a son; Joseph Vittitoe of Radcliffe, 3 sisters; Marilyn (Darrell) Milburn of Chaplin, Rita (Joseph) Lyvers of Holy Cross, Joyce (John) Hellard of Louisville, a brother; Gary (Kathy) Scamahorn of Bardstown, 3 grandchildren also survive.

A Bardstown resident, Mrs. Imelda Marie (Tootsie) Shanks, age 67, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 in Colonial Health and Rehab in Bardstown. 

She was the former Marie Medley, a native of Washington County, a retired employee of Sears Credit Center in Louisville, and a member of the Evangel Tabernacle in Louisville. She was preceded in death by her parents; Louie (Duke) and Aline Lee Medley, a brother; Thomas Medley, her step father; Jim Smith, and a nephew; Tony Medley. She is survived by her husband; Roy Shanks, a daughter; Gretchen Shanks of Portland Oregon, 2 sons; Roy Joseph Shanks Jr. of Mt. Washington, and Thomas Leo Shanks of Bardstown, 2 grandchildren Kelsey and Corey Shanks, and 1 great grandchild also survive.

Joseph Everett (Brother Bivens) Bivens,  79

A Bardstown resident, Mr. Joseph Everett (Brother Bivens) Bivens age 79, passed away Friday November 18, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Bardstown. He was a native of Nelson County, a retired employee of Jim Beam Distillery with 39 years of service, an Air Force veteran, a member of Abraham Lincoln American Legion Post 167, and a member of St. Monica Catholic Church. 

He was the son of the late Augustine and Bertha Ann Livers Bivens and was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Greathouse Bivens, a daughter; Tisha Goldring of Cincinnati Ohio, 3 sons; Gus Goldring and Jerry Goldring, both of Bardstown, David Litsey of Lebanon KY, 2 sisters; Georgia Girton of Bardstown and Margaret Reed of Louisville, several grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Thomas Richard (Tom) Geoghegan, 87
 

A former Bardstown resident, Mr. Thomas Richard (Tom) Geoghegan, age 87, passed away Wednesday November 9, 2011 in Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville Kentucky. He was a native of Shelby County, a retired employee of General Motors, an air force veteran, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and a member of the Knight’s of Columbus #1290 where he was a former Grand Knight. He had also served on the bereavement committee at St. Joseph Church. 

He was preceded in death by his parents William Claude and Mallie Taylor Geoghegan, a son; Larry Geoghegan, 3 sisters; Mary Livers, Elizabeth Abell, and Sara Millett, 2 brothers; John Allen and Alvis Geoghegan. He is survived by his wife; Nellie Howard Geoghegan, 3 sons; Richard (Diane) Geoghegan of Prospect, Robert (Trish) Geoghegan of Columbus Ohio, John Geoghegan of Lexington, a sister; Jean Keller of Shaker Heights Ohio, 2 brothers; Malcolm (Lucy) Geoghegan of Bardstown, and William C. Geoghegan of Elizabethtown, 5 grandchildren also survive.

Doris Laverne Smith,  75

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Doris Laverne Smith, age 75, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. She was the former Doris Laverne Noel, a native of Washington County, a former secretary at WBRT, a retired accountant at Nukote, and a member of the Cox’s Creek Baptist Church. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; William Grundy and Ethel Letra Chesser Noel, a brother; Donnie Noel, and a sister; Jean Beam. She is survived by 2 sons; Michael (Brenda) Updike of Louisville, Larry (Gail) Updike of Bardstown, a daughter; Sharon (Steve) Mitchell of Lawrenceburg, 3 sisters; Linda Spaulding of Botland, Dorval Breeding and Carolyn Martin, both of Bardstown, several nieces and nephews, 7 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren also survive.

A Cox’s Creek resident Mr. Thomas Roy “Tommy” Godbey, age 66, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 at his residence. He was a native of Washington County, a Navy veteran, and a retired employee of Bell South.

He was the son of the late Lee Estill and Sarah Louise Hatchett Godbey, and was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Clark Godbey and a brother Billy Godbey. He is survived by his wife; Joan Hutchins Godbey, 3 daughters; Lisa Godbey of Louisville, Jessica (Taylor) Brockman of Bardstown, Lynn (Matt) Mattingly of Lexington, 2 sons; Mike Godbey of Bardstown, Lee Godbey of Bloomfield, 5 sisters; Linda (Gerald) Bishop, Susie (Danny) Smith, both of Springfield, Lelya Cawthon, Becky (Teddy) Ballard, both of Bardstown, Kathy (Joe) Delaney of Cox’s Creek, 4 brothers; Jerry (Brenda) Godbey, Sam Godbey, Johnny Godbey, Jesse (Diane) Godbey, all of Bardstown, and 4 grandchildren, Seth Lundy, Conner Brockman, Tanner Brockman and Erica Mattingly.

Sonya Cyrisse Taylor,  39

A Bardstown resident, Ms. Sonya Cyrisse Taylor, age 39, passed away Tuesday October 18, 2011 in Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. She was a native of Nelson County, a former employee of the City of Bardstown and Dillard’s department store and Target in Louisville. She was a member of the Fairfield Second Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father; William Thomas Taylor, and a brother; Ronald Keith Taylor. 

She is survived by her mother; Glenna Taylor of Bardstown, 2 sisters; Glenna Carolyn Taylor of Bardstown, Vivian Michelle Taylor of LaGrange Kentucky, 3 brothers; Thomas Wayne Taylor, Anthony Karl Taylor, and Kacy Leigh Taylor, all of Louisville. A host of nieces and nephews as well as several aunts and uncles also survive.

Mabel Louise Pinkston, 79

A Bardstown resident Ms. Mabel Louise Pinkston, age 79, passed away Sunday October 2, 2011 in Colonial Health and Rehab in Bardstown. 

She was a native of Nelson County, a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church, and the Botland Homemakers. She was the daughter of the late Harry B. and Katherine Elizabeth Summers Pinkston, and was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Pinkston. She is survived by one brother, Yancey Pinkston of Clarksville IN., a sister in law, Maxine Pinkston of Bardstown, 5 nephews also survive.

Garland Terrell,  82

A Bloomfield resident, Mr. Garland Terrell, age 82, passed away Tuesday September 20, 2011 in Life Care Center of Bardstown. He was a native of Washington County, the owner and operator of Garland Terrell trucking company, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Chaplin-Highview Church of Christ. 

He was the son of the late Elvin and Ida Greer Terrell, and was preceded in death by two sisters; Edith Terrell and Marcella Cobb, a brother; Ralph Terrell, a son in law; Freddie Bare, and two infant grandsons; John Terrell Mattingly, and Chad Daniel Mattingly. He is survived by his wife of 64 years; Louise Hagerman Terrell, two daughters; Linda (John) Mattingly of Bloomfield, Glenna (Roy) Hobbs of Cox’s Creek, a son; Kevin (Brenda) Terrell of Bardstown, a sister; Daphna Jean (David) Sherry of Louisville, 11 grandchildren; Darren and Laura Mattingly, Terra Reynolds, Amanda Grace, Tera Edelen, Carley Terrell, Stacey Bell, Justin Watkins, Chad Hobbs, Jessica Marks, and Shawn Hobbs and 20 great grandchildren also survive.

A Bardstown resident Mr. Donald Martin Janes, age 74, passed away Friday September 9, 2011 at Kindred Hospital in Louisville. He was a native of Nelson County, retired truck driver for Worthington Steel, and a member of the Parkway Baptist Church. 

He was the son of the late Harry and Frances Janes, and was preceded in death by two brothers; Billy and Bobby Janes. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Hilbert Janes, a daughter; Kelli Janes of Bardstown, 3 grandchildren; Alisha and Jonathan Higgs, Dylan Blair.

Joseph Leo (Speedy) Borders,  79

A Bardstown resident, Joseph Leo (Speedy) Borders, age 79, passed away Thursday September 8, 2011 in Colonial Health and Rehab in Bardstown. He was a native of Washington County, a retired employee of Mac Construction, Rose Construction, and High way construction. He was an army veteran of the Korean War, a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, a life member of Shepardsville VFW Post 5710, and a life member of American Legion Post 121. He was an avid fisherman and camper, very patriotic and religious, and loved his family and friends. 

He was the son of the late Charles Earnest and Mary Bessie Murphy Borders, and was preceded in death by a brother James C. Borders, three sisters; Anna Lucille Downs, Dorthy Mattingly, and Elizabeth Bartley, the mother of his children; Betty Ann Jones Borders. He is survived by 2 daughters; Patty (Frank) Ritchie of Bardstown, Anna (Bruce) Smith of Brainerd, Minnesota, 3 sons; Joseph L. (Mary Rice) Borders Jr. of Bardstown, Charles Thomas Borders of Crosby, Texas, John Timothy (Jennifer) Borders of Dallas Texas, a sister; Susie Knoppe of Bardstown, a brother; William H. Borders of Port St. Lucie, Florida, 19 grandchildren and 25 great- grandchildren also survive.

A Bardstown resident, Mrs. Mary Jeanette (Janet) Guest, age 84, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011 in University of Louisville Hospital. She was the former Janet Holbert, a native of Nelson County, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Mission Store, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 121, and a homemaker. 

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jim Guest, 3 daughters; Mary (Steve) Hagan of Bardstown, Cheryl (Gary) Faulkner of Indialantic, Florida, Theresa Jung of Savannah, Georgia, 2 sons; Frank (Sharon) Smith of Shepardsville, Joe Paul (Patsy) Smith of Taylorsville, 1 sister; Mattie Martin of Bardstown, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; William and Effie Price Holbert, 2 sons; Don and Jerry Smith, a grandson; Donald Smith Jr., a granddaughter; Francine Smith, 5 brothers; Harold Holbert, Andrew Holbert, Lebertis Holbert, Joe Holbert, Casper Holbert, 3 sisters; Anna Bell O’Hare, Lorene Ritchie, and Emma Jean Newton.

A Springfield resident Rev. Ernest Michael (Ernie) Perham Sr., age 63 passed away Sunday September 4, 2011 in Pontotoc, Mississippi. He was a native of Syracuse New York, and an Evangelist and a member of the Nelson County Baptist Church. 

He is survived by his wife Linda Dowling Perham, six daughters Lynette(John) Lynch of Charlotte, N. C., Abigail Perham, Hannah Perham, Lydia Perham, Bethany Perham and Priscilla Perham all of Springfield, KY., 6 sons E. Michael (Jennifer) Perham Jr., of Phoenix, Az., Donald Perham of Hardinsburg,  KY., Caleb Perham of Elizabethtown, Stephen Perham of Bardstown, Joshua Perham and Zechariah Perham both of  Springfield, his parents Mr and Mrs. Carl(Kay) Perham Sr., of Parish, New York, 5 sisters Marie (Jim)Radley of Pulaski, NY., Ruth Hall of Dougway, NY., Kathy Furneaux of Central Square, NY., Amy(Tim)Spraker of Cato, NY., and Cindy(Terry)White of Burlington,KY., and one brother Carl (Cathy)Perham Jr. of Camden, NY. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren.

A Bardstown resident Mr. James Dariel Hagan age 85, passed away Monday Aug, 15, 2011 in Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, KY. He was a native of Loretto, a retired farmer and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Huberta Milton Hagan, his parents, Joseph Constance and Mary Roxy Grant Hagan, 6 brothers, and 6 sisters. He is survived by 4 daughters; Darlene Williams of Nazareth, Donna Gardner, Dorothy Keller and Jackie Jones, all of Bardstown, KY., 7 sons; James Milton Hagan of Lawrenceburg, Andy Hagan and Charlie Hagan both of Bloomfield, Perry Hagan of Summerville, North Carolina, Stephen Hagan of Louisville, Pat and Thomas A. Hagan both of Bardstown, 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.

Jack Terrill Shelburne,  85

A Bardstown resident, Mr. Jack Terrill Shelburne, age 85, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville Kentucky. He was a native of Spencer County, a retired employee of General Electric, and a farmer. He was an army veteran of World War II, a life long member of New Salem Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and trustee. He was a past president of the New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery Committee. 

He was the son of the late Fred and Betty Lucille Stone Shelburne, and was preceded in death by his wife Murna Cook Shelburne, and a brother Joseph Lee Shelburne. He is survived by two sons, Terry (Emily) Shelburne of Bardstown, Doug (Linda) Shelburne of Crestwood, 6 sisters, Grace Barnes of Bardstown, Shirley (Alex) Martin of Bloomfield, Betty (Tommy) Hahn of Mt. Washington, Laura (Harry) Hurst of Cox’s Creek, Eleanor (Tom) Wahle of Louisville, Winnie (Bert) Berthold of Destin Florida, 3 brothers; Tommy (Carol) Shelburne, Tony (Shannon) Shelburne, Alan Shelburne all of Bardstown, 2 grandchildren; Jennifer Corn, Christopher Shelburne, also survive.

A Bardstown resident, Mrs. Rose Marie Richardson, age 51, passed away Saturday August 6, 2011 in Jewish Hospital in Louisville. She was the former Rose Hamilton, a native of Nelson County, a dietary technician at Life Care Center of Bardstown, and of the catholic faith. 

She was the daughter of the late Robert and Imogene Oder Hamilton, and was preceded in death by a son, James Darryl Hamilton, and a brother, Doug Hamilton. She is survived by a daughter, Terrie Richardson of Boston, two sons, Joe Hamilton and Earl Wade Richardson, both of Bardstown, 3 sisters, Peggy Mikulec, of Danville, Rhonda Lou Parker and Gayle Hamilton, both of Bardstown, 4 brothers, Ricky, David and Bobby Hamilton, all of Bardstown, Freddy Hamilton, of Louisville. One grandchild also survives.

Shirley Marie Bodine,  70

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Shirley Marie Bodine age 70, passed away Wednesday August 3, 2011 at her residence. She was the former Shirley Fryrear, a native of Nelson County, a homemaker, and a member of the First Cedar Creek Baptist Church. She was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. 

She was the daughter of the late Emmett and Buford Bowman Fryrear and was preceded in death by her husband Isaac Eugene (Ike) Bodine, and a brother Kenny Fryrear. She is survived by two sons, Wayne Bodine, Mike (Lisa) Bodine, both of Bardstown, two sisters, Mary (Allen) Walcott, Ruby (Meryl) Smith, both of Bardstown, a brother, Rodman (Connie) Fryrear of Lincoln Nebraska, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also survive.

James Clarence (J.C.) Chaney,  59

A Bardstown resident Mr. James Clarence (J.C.) Chaney age 59, passed away Tuesday August 2, 2011 in Twin Lakes Regional Hospital in Leitchfield Kentucky. He was a native of Larue County, a farmer, and self employed handy man.

He was the son of the late James Clarence and Clara Brewer Chaney. He is survived by a daughter, April Johnson of Leitchfield, two sons, Chad Chaney of Bardstown, Randy Kennedy of Hodgenville, two brothers, Charlie Salsman of Boston, Jeff Salsman of Elizabethtown, 6 grandchildren also survive. Cremation was chosen by the family. 

A memorial service will be Monday, August 8, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Rolling Fork Baptist Church, services conducted by Bro. Bruce Nichols. Delores Ann Mudd, 62

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Dolores Ann Mudd age 62 passed away Monday August 1, 2011 at Norton Hospital in Louisville. She was the former Dolores Spalding, a native of Nelson County, a self employed seamstress, a member of the sewing group The Threads of Love, a greeter at Greenwell Houghlin Northside Funeral Home, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph Patrick and Martha Irene Cusick Spalding, and was preceded in death by two brothers Martin and Robert Spalding. She is survived by her husband, Ronald W. Mudd, one daughter, Amy Lynn (Josh) Adams, Fort Smith Arkansas, one son, Joseph Paul (Laura) Mudd, Louisville, 3 sisters; Jean (Pete) Draper, Bardstown, Carmel (Ronald) Lewis, Bloomfield, Anna (Ron) Gordon, Shelbyville, 4 brothers, Mark (Rita) Spalding, James Freddy Spalding, Brad (Marti) Spalding, Herman (Veda) Spalding, all of Bardstown, 2 grandchildren, Tyler Joseph Mudd and Sarah Grace Adams also survive.

Barbara Ann Curtsinger, 63

A Bardstown resident, Mrs. Barbara Ann Curtsinger, age 63, passed away Tuesday July 19, 2011 in Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was the former Barbara Ann Downs, a native of Nelson County, a former employee of Kinsman Five Star Food Mart and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. 

She was the daughter of the late John Walter and Della Mae Greenwell Downs. She is preceded in death by a brother, John Edward Downs, and companion; Joseph Patrick Auberry. She is survived by 2 daughters; Ann (Keith) Gilkey and Shari (Evdio) Zurita, both of Bardstown. 6 grand children also survive. 

Cremation was chosen by the family, a memorial mass will be Monday, July 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM from the Basicilia of St. Joseph Proto-cathedral by Fr. Michael Wimsatt. A Bardstown resident Mrs. Clara Elgetha Piles age 90, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 in Colonial Health and Rehab in Bardstown. She was the former Elgetha Downs, a native of Nelson County, a graduate of Bethlehem Academy, a homemaker and farmer, and member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. 

She was the daughter of the late Russell and Myrtle Greenwell Downs, and was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Piles Sr. and a sister, Margaret (Pinky) Coulter. She is survived by 4 daughters; Mary Ann Johnson, Pat (Jess) Riley, Donna (Jeff) Bereza, and Karen (Mike) Lyon, all of Bardstown, 3 sons; Erine (Bonnie) Piles, Eddie (Norma) Piles, Joe (Lydia) Piles, all of Bardstown, 1 sister; Nancy Howard of Bardstown, 2 brothers; Kenny (Midge) Downs of Botland, Melvin (Jodie) Downs of Chattanooga TN. 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren also survive. 

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 10:30 AM from Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fr. Chris Allegra celebrant; burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Barry Stephen Barnes, 50

A Bardstown resident Mr. Barry Stephen Barnes age 50 passed away Friday July 8, 2011 as the result of injuries sustained in a 2 vehicle accident in Taylor Co. at the intersection of New Lebanon Road and Finley Ridge Road. He was a native of Nelson Co., a self-employed mechanic and the Owner of Barnes Truck and Trailer Repair and of the Baptist faith. 

He was the son of the late Chester Norman and Norma Jewell Barnes Jr.. He is survived by 2 step daughters: Jessica Phillips of Dayton, FL., Brittany Lewis of Sacramento, CA., 2 brothers: Wayne Barnes of Bardstown and Timothy Neal Barnes of Louisville, KY. 3 step grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews also survive. 

Funeral services for Mr. Barry Stephen Barnes will be Tuesday July 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM from The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church conducted by Bro. Tim Lucas. Burial will be in the church cemetery. James Bradley (Brad) Groce, 40

A New Haven resident, James Bradley (Brad) Groce, age 40, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011 at his residence. He was a native of Jefferson County, a self employed tree service specialist, and a member of the Chaplin Christian Church Disciples of Christ. 

He was preceded in death by his step father, Roland Coulter, and his brother, Roland Dale Coulter. He is survived by a daughter, Amber Lynn Groce, of Bardstown, his mother, Joanie Coulter of Bardstown, his father, James Harold Groce of Louisville, a sister, Shellie (Lyle) Ward of Delta Junction, Alaska, his grandmother Pauline Groce of Louisville, and a special friend, Patricia Shain of New Haven.

William Lee Wade III, 28

A Bardstown resident, Mr. William Lee Wade III, age 28, passed away Wednesday June 22, 2011 in Jewish Hospital in Louisville after an extended illness. He was a native of Nelson County, a former employee of Jackson Hewitt Tax Service, and a member of the Bloomfield Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his father William Lee Wade Jr., his grandfather William Curtsinger, and grandmother Marilyn Wade. He is survived by his mother, Shelia Wade of Lebanon Junction, a sister, Cassie Wade of Cox’s Creek, a brother Joshua Wade of Cox’s Creek, a half sister, Matina Martin of Cox’s Creek, his maternal grandmother, Lillie Curtsinger of Bardstown, his paternal grandfather William Lee Wade Sr. of Bardstown, several aunts and uncles also survive.

Myrtle Frances Kidwell, 92

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Myrtle Frances Kidwell age 92 passed away Wednesday June 22, 2011 in Colonial Health and Rehab. She was the former Myrtle Taylor, a native of Washington County, a former employee of the Nelson County Board of Education, having worked in food service at Old Kentucky Home High School, a member of the Bardstown Baptist Church, and a homemaker. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; Stanley Kidwell, her parents; George and Martha Ann Satterly Taylor, 2 daughters; Doris Ann Putnam, and Lilly Kathryn Elmore, a sister; Lottie Rae Taylor, 3 brothers; Albert Jack Taylor, Cecil and Stanley Taylor. She is survived by 3 daughters; Mary Agnes Wright of Louisville, Becky Lou (Frank) Watts, Louise Frances Struck both of Mt. Washington, a son; Michael (Reba) Kidwell of Bardstown, a sister; Christine Boblitt of Bardstown, a brother; Donald Wood Taylor of Scottsburg Indiana, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren also survive.

James Sherman Clements, Jr. 60

A Bardstown resident Mr. James Sherman Clements, Jr. age 69, passed away Tuesday night May 31, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Bardstown, Ky.  Sherman was a 1960 graduate of St. Joseph Prep, a former employee of Simpson Motor Co. and General Electric.  He was an Army veteran having served with Battery C., 4th Missle Batallion, 562nd Artillery stationed at Alvarado, Texas.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  He is survived by 1 brother Frank Clements of Mt. Washington, KY., 1 nephew Christopher Jefferson Clements of Bedford, KY.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday June 4, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home with Fr. Dakota Dalton-John Humphrey, 10

A Bardstown resident Dakota Dalton-John Humphrey age 10 passed away Tuesday May 17, 2011 at Kosair Childrens Hospital in Louisville.  He was a 5th  grade student at Cox’s Creek Elementary School.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather Christina Humphrey Adams & William Brown of New Haven, his grandparents whom he called Mom & Dad Mike & Susan Humphrey of Bardstown, his brother Christian Bunch of Vine Grove, KY., 2 uncles Doug & Mike Humphrey both of Bardstown, his grandmother Ella Mae Judd of Holley, New York, a special great uncle George Judd Jr., several cousins, & great aunts and uncles also survive. He is also survived by his best friend at school Michael Riley.

Arthur Eugene Hardin, Sr.,  79

A Bardstown resident Mr. Arthur Eugene Hardin Sr. age 79 passed away Monday May 16, 2011 at his residence.  He was a native of Nelson Co., a retired employee of Ford Motor Co. and retired farmer.  He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of Bardstown American Legion Post # 121, a member of the United Auto Workers Union and the First Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by 6 daughters, Katherine Howard of Murray, KY., Darlene Wood of Bloomfield, KY., Linda Spalding, Alice McNeal, Pam Vaughan, and Dana Kays all of Bardstown,  5 sons,  Arthur Eugene Hardin, Jr., Roy Hardin, Mickey Hardin, Benny Hardin, and Ronnie Hardin all of Bardstown, KY. Two sisters Cora and Nora Hardin both of Louisville, KY., one brother Leonard Hardin of Hodgenville, KY., 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren survive.

Hallie Montgomery, 89

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Hallie Montgomery age 89 passed away Thursday May 5, 2011 at Life Care of Bardstown.  She was a native of Larue County and a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond K. Montgomery and her parents.
She is survived by her son Raymond G. Montgomery of Bardstown, 2 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren also survive

Dwight Alan Clark, 54

A Bardstown resident Dwight Alan Clark age 54 passed away Sunday May 1,2011 at his residence.  He was a native of Galesburg, IL., a former employee of Henderson Township and a member of  the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lyle Richard & Imogene Sipes Clark.

 He is survived by 2 daughters Mary Jo(James) Murray  and Angelique Clark both of Bardstown, his son Vincent (Megan)Clark of Galesburg, IL., 3 grandchildren Madalyn Clark, Macie Clark, and Jamarious Spalding. He is also survived by his former wife and his good friend Rebecca Clark of Bardstown, his brother Vern Clark of Ogden, Utah and 4 nephews.

The family chose cremation and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.  There will be no public visitation or funeral.
 

 

Joseph "Joe" Darvin Snellen, 80

A Bardstown native Mr. Joseph”Joe” Darvin Snellen age 80 passed away Sunday May 1, 2011 at Flaget Memorial Hospital.  He was a native of Nelson County, he retired after 23 ½  years of service as  SMSGT (ret) of the U.S. Air Force also retired after 38 years from Heaven Hill Distilleries as Maintenance Supervisor and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife Virginia Velotindos Snellen, his parents John “Jack” & Dolly Rapier Snellen, 2 sisters Minnie Belle Portman and Marie Bowman and 2 brothers George Rapier Snellen and John S. Snellen.

 He is survived by 2 sons James D.(Donna) Snellen of Bardstown, Joseph P.(Sue)  Snellen of Bradenton, Fl., one daughter Cheri(Henry) McCoy of New Albany, IN., 2 sisters: Cleophas Ice of Bardstown and Catherine Portman of Louisville., 4 granddaughters Karen(Jody) Spalding of Bardstown, Stacey(Joseph)Delaney of Cox’s Creek, Michelle Adkins of Richmond, KY., Jamie Snellen of Missouri, One grandson Joseph(Gracemarie) Snellen of Avon Park, Fl.,and 11 great grandchildren also survive.

Ronald Lee Howard, 64

A Bardstown resident Ronald Lee Howard age 64 passed away Sunday April 17, 2011 at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.  He was a native of Nelson County a former employee of Mike Riggs Construction and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents William E. & Agnes Beatrice Riley Howard and a sister Elizabeth Ann Shipp.

He is survived by his son Jamie Howard of Bardstown, 3 sisters: Margaret Louise Nalley of Elizabethtown, Sheila Rose Stone and Barbara Allen Nalley both of Bardstown, his brother William E. Howard Jr. of Bardstown and one grandson Devin Howard. The family chose cremation for Ronald Howard. 
 

 

Daniel "Wayne" Thurman, 58

Daniel “Wayne” Thurman age 58 entered eternal rest on Tuesday April 5, 2011 in Bardstown.  He was a native of Nelson County, retired from of General Electric after 36 years of service and was of the catholic faith.  He is preceded in death by his parents James Russell and Jessie Beatrice Parkerson Thurman and his brother Ronald Neal Thurman.  He is survived by his daughter Ginger(Ben) Owens of Bardstown his grandson Tanner Owens of Bardstown, his sister Betty Hicks of Bardstown his life long companion Sandy Ballard of Bardstown, 3 brothers Russ Thurman, Jimmy Guy Thurman and David Thurman all of Bardstown.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mary Regina Broughton, 85

 Mary Regina Broughton, 85, beloved wife of Carrol Broughton, passed away on March 30, 2011 at Crestview Care and Rehabilitation Center in Shelbyville, Kentucky after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s.  Regina came into this world on October 10, 1925, the third of five children born to late Ida Mae Norris and Ralph Cornelius Holbert.  Her husband of 51 years, one brother, Jimmy Holbert and two sisters, Mildred Laha and Roselyn Hardy have preceded her in death.

Regina was raised in New Haven Kentucky, spent most of her adult life in Louisville and returned to Bardstown after her husband retired in 1976.  She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in May 2002.  Regina lived a simple life of virtue and in her later years was ravaged by a disease that stole her soul long before it took her body.  She will be sorely missed by those who knew her and loved her.

She is survived by her son Gayle Franklin Broughton, his wife, Marcy of Harrison City, PA.  sister, Wilma McLain of Flaherty,  brother-in-law, Clyde Broughton of Cox’s Creek,  three grandchildren, Eric Kent Broughton, Christina Gayle Randall, Elizabeth Kate Pickens and nine great-grandchildren, Victoria Gayle, Audrey Kate, Ezra Shea, Bruce Allen, Molly Jane, Elliot Witherspoon, Samuel Thomas, Aiden Josiah and Kenna Rowe. 

There will be a time of visitation from 6PM to 8PM on Friday, April 1 in Bardstown at the Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home, 627 N. Third Street.  The funeral will be held on Saturday April 2 at 10:30AM at St. Thomas Church, 870 Thomas Lane, Bardstown, Kentucky.  Following the funeral, Regina will be laid to rest at St. Thomas Church Cemetery.

Mary Catherine Brown, 81

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Mary Catherine Brown age 81 passed away Sunday March 27, 2011 at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Nelson County, a retired employee of Nukote International, a former employee of Kurtz Restaurant  a devoted long term caregiver to family and friends and was a member of St. Gregory Catholic  Church.  She is preceded in death by her husband J.D. Brown her parents William Goble & Mary Ethel Newton Brown, sister Mary Ann Clark brothers William Goble”Biggie” Brown, William Beckham Brown and her special pet “Tinker”.

She is survived by two daughters: Sheila(Mike)Hutchins of Bardstown, Donna(Warren)Cheek of Cox’s Creek, 2 sisters: Ethelene Kemper of Lexington, Cecilia(tony)Wimsatt of Indiana, 7 grandchildren: Amy  Durbin, Jenny  Buster, Larae Miles, Cybil Cheek, Farrah Martin, Heath Cheek and Kyle Cheek.  She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren: Dylan Durbin, Kenadi Durbin, Cameron Buster, Raela Miles, Alexis Cheek and Abby Martin.

A Bardstown resident Tyler Wayne age 27 passed away Wednesday March 23, 2011 at his residence.  He was a native of Nelson County and the Manager of Miracle Car Wash.

He is survived by his daughter Isabella Wayne of Bardstown his mother Nancy Helton Wayne of Bardstown, his father Bruce Allan Wayne of Bardstown, his 2 sisters: Brooke O’Bryan Smoak of Houston, TX., Ricci Wayne of Bardstown, brothers: Kelly O’Bryan of Knoxville, TN., and Jim O’Bryan of Bardstown and his fiancée Melissa Bunn of Bardstown and his Paternal Grandfather Alvin Wayne of Naples, FL. He is also survived by several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Roger Allan Miller, 49

A Bardstown resident Roger Allan Miller age 49 passed away Saturday March 19, 2011 from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident on Hwy 62 in Bardstown. He was a native of Ohio, a former employee of Zappos and was attending the Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by his daughter Alana Miller of Bardstown and his mother Beth Williams Miller of Bardstown. His 2 sisters Karen Jarrell of Bloomfield, Rebecca Swift of Bardstown, 3 brothers Christopher Miller of Kettle,KY., Gary Miller of Elyria,OH., and Richard Miller of Bardstown.

The family has chosen cremation and other services have not been planned at this time.
 

 

Lorane Peavler, 92 

A Bardstown resident Mr. Lorane Peavler age 92 passed away on Tuesday March 22, 2011 at his residence.   He was a native of  Washington Co.  He was a retired employee of Jewell & Haydon, former employee of Big 4 and a self employed farm implement mechanic and an Army Air Force Veteran of W.W. 2 and a member of American Legion Post #121 and a member of Wickland Baptist Church.  He is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Nora Goff Peavler, by a great-grandson Matthew Dillon Armstrong and four brothers  Vyron, Eugene, Loval, R.C. Peavler and two sisters Ressie Kays and Bonnie Mathis.  He is survived by his wife Rachel Kidwell Peavler, three daughters Marilyn and Glenna Pleaver of Bardstown and Brenda (Mike) Sonne of Bardstown and three sisters Birdie Marksbury of Taylorsville, Betty Chesser of Bardstown and Doris Hardin of Cox’s Creek,  nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and one great great-grand child  Funeral services for Mr. Lorane Peavler will be on Saturday March 26, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home in Bardstown Kentucky with Brother Donald Gowin officiating with burial in Highland Memory Garden in Mt. Thelma Riley Osborne

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Thelma Riley Osborne entered into eternal rest on Sunday March 20, 2011 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.  She was a life long resident of Nelson county, a former sales clerk for Town and County Department Store, a life long homemaker who had a passion for flower gardening.  She was a member of the Bardstown United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth & Mattie Berry Riley a grandson Donald Rucker, 2 brothers Dale and Dain Riley and 2 sisters Elizabeth Riley and Alice Lyvers.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth R. Osborne, her childrenL Stephanie(Gerard)Yates of Louisville, Kenneth Lee(Phyllis) Osborne and Dwayne(Robin) Osborne both of Bloomfield, Millicent Osborne and Vicki(Pat)Filiatreau both of Bardstown, her sisters: Sally Thrush and Martha Estelle Workman both of Louisville, Clairenda Miller of CA., brothers: Joseph”Jr” Riley of Bedford, KY. and Robert Keith Riley of Oklahoma City, OK.,11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren also survive.

John William Smith Jr., 55

A Bardstown resident Mr. John William”Smooth” Smith Jr., age 55 passed away Thursday March 10, 2011 at Blue Ash Care Center in Cincinnati Ohio.  He was a native of Fairfield and was a farmer for several years. He is preceded in death by his parents John William Sr. & Fannie Mae Wells Smith, his companion Wanda Lou Montgomery and his sister Gloria Clark.  He is survived by 3 sons Tyrone Montgomery, Quintin Montgomery and Terrance Montgomery all of Bardstown, his 2 sisters Betty(Carl)Sheckles of Bardstown and Anna(Ralph) Stone of Bloomfield. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.

A Bardstown resident Jerome “Jerry”  Smith age 60 passed away Wednesday march 9,2011 at Flaget Memorial Hospital.  He was a native of Nelson county, a self employed businessman an Army veteran and a member of Parkway Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughter Kyna Murphy of Bardstown, his son Jerry Smith of Bardstown, his mother and stepfather Janet and Jim Guest of Bardstown, 3 sisters

Ervin L. "Buddy" Lewis, 72

A Bardstown resident Mr. Ervin L.”Buddy” Lewis age 72 passed away Thursday March 10, 2011 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.  He was a native of Washington County, a retired employee of Clayton & Lambert in Buckner, KY. with 35 years of service, the former owner of Lewis Discount Furniture Store in LaGrange, KY., and the owner of B&B Sales in Bardstown and was of the Baptist Faith.  He preceded in death by his parents Ervin & Fannie Hilton Lewis, a son Gene Lewis, a step-son Francis Gerald Luckett, 2 brothers: Harold Lewis & John A. Lewis and a sister Annetta Scott.

He is survived by his wife Bernice Mattingly Luckett Lewis, 1 daughter Linda Gail(Mitchell) Brooks of Crestwood, KY., his son Ricky Lynn Lewis of LaGrange, KY., 2 step daughters Vickie Susan(David) Farmer of Campbellsville, KY., Karen Denise(Russell) Krause of Herndon, VA., 2 step sons Gregory Alan Luckett of Lexington, KY, Stephen Earl Luckett of Lebanon, KY., 2 sisters Dorothy(Robert Downs) Gilkey & Mary Jo (John) Hafendorfer both of Bardstown.  He is also survived by one granddaughter, 9 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild.  Funeral services will be Sunday March 13th at 1;00pm from the Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Lee Davis Jr., 68

A Cox’s Creek resident Mr. Ray Lee Davis Jr., age 68 passed away Wednesday March 9th 2011 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.  He was a native of Nelson County a retired employee of General Electric and a self employed auto mechanic and was of the Baptist faith.  He is preceded  in death by his parents Ray Lee Sr. & Louise Thompson Davis, his son David Davis and a sister Versey Moore.

He is survived by his wife Mildred Firman Davis, his daughter Sharon Pugh of Cox;s Creek, his brother William Thomas(Shirley) Davis of Clarksville, TN., 4 grandchildren: Alicia Pearson, Jalayne Tillery, Kinsley Grundy, and Britney Carter and 2 great grandchildren: Zah-Reece Pearson and Kaden Stone.

Mary Lucille Siegrist, 84

A Bardstown resident Miss Mary Lucille Siegrist age 84 passed away Wednesday March 9, 2011 at Life Care of Bardstown.  She was a cashier for the old A&P and Kroger groceries for 30 years, she was a member of  The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church where she became a member at the age of 12, was the former Chairman of the Board and sexton of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery for many years.

She is preceded in death by her parents William Olen & Adessa Bell Dones Siegrist and her sister Dorothy Hayden. She is survived by her sister Katherine Elizabeth Siegrist of Bardstown and her nephew Mark Hayden of South Carolina.

Funeral services will be 11;00am Saturday March 12, 2011 at Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home with burial in Cedar Creek Church Cemetery.  Bro. Janet Mattingly, 68

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Janet Mattingly age 68 passed Monday February 21, 2011 at Life Care Center in Bardstown.  She was a native of Buffalo, KY. the former Janet Shofner, a former employee of Communicare and American Greetings and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She is precedes in death by her husband James Randall Mattingly, her daughter Mary Lee Angela Mattingly her parents Robert & Christina Wyatt Shofner and her brother Carl Shofner.

She is survived by her son Thaddeus R. Mattingly(Andre Bradford) of Louisville, her daughters: Melissa D.(Scott) Whitehouse and Jolie D. Jewell both of Bardstown, her sister Anna Lee (Bill) Brown of Bardstown,  her brothers Thomas(Terri) Higdon of Atlanta, GA., Charles(Connie) Higdon of Mt.Washington, her long time companion Fred Maddox (the family will be eternally grateful for your countless acts of kindness). She is also survived by 3 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday February 25, at 11:00am at the Basiilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with Fr. Bill Hammer celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Church Cemetery.  Friends may kindly call Thursday February 24, from 2:00-8:00pm with prayers at 6:00pm
 

 

Kathy Lee Mudd, 24

A Cox’s Creek resident Mrs. Kathy Lee Mudd age 54 passed away Wednesday Feb. 16, 2011 at The Brooks KMI Hospital in Louisville.  She was a native of Hardin County, a bus monitor for the Nelson County Board of Education, and a 4-H Club Volunteer.  She is preceded in death by her mother Eleanor Grace Wells Hall.

She is survived by her husband Jerome Mudd of Coxs Creek, her daughter Melissa(Greg)Woodson of Bardstown, her father David Lee(Ruth) Hall of Bardstown, here sister Nancy(Ed) Greenwell of Bardstown.  She is also survived by her 3 grandchildren Tyler, Bethany and Caitlin Mudd of Bardstown. 

At the request of the family following the visitation on Saturday Feb. 19th from 3;00-8;00pm cremation was chosen.  The Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home, a member of the International Order of the Golden Rule, in charge of arrangements.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.

 

Matthew Ryan Butcher, 29

Matthew Ryan Butcher age 29 passed away Wednesday January 26th,2011 at Norton Hospice Pavilion in Louisville.  He was a native of Jefferson County, a graduate of St. Xavier High School, was a Private 1st class of the United States Marine Corps and a member of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Amber Nicole Edelen Butcher of Bardstown, his daughter Meredith Butcher and son Chase Butcher both of Louisville, his parents: Raymond”Ray” and Peggy Eicher Butcher of Louisville, 2 brothers Mike(Tabitha) Butcher and Josh Butcher both of Louisville, his grandmothers: Shirley Eicher and Eva Butcher and nieces Nadia and Corrine Butcher.

Funeral services will be Monday January 31st at 10:30am at the Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home with Bro. Ben Farrar officiating. After the conclusion of the 10:30 service family and friends will then meet at Calvary Cemetery in Louisville at Noon Monday for a chapel service. William Earl "Bill" Welch Jr., 65

A Bardstown resident Mr. William Earl”Bill” Welch Jr., age 65 passed away Thursday January 20, 2011 at his home in Bardstown.  He was a native of Nelson County, a retired employee of Jim Beam Distillery and was voted in 1965 as an All American Football Player.

He is preceded in death by his parents William Earl Sr.& Beula Hutchins Welch, his brothers Tommy, Mark, Ronnie, and Jimmy Welch.

He is survived by his wife Linda Whitney Welch of Bardstown, his son Tandy Welch of Coxs Creek 2 daughters: Debra Welch of Coxs Creek and Jessica Welch of Bardstown.  He is also survived by 2 sisters: Connie Updike and Wanda Riley both of Bardstown, 6 brothers: Joe Welch, Freddy Welch, Jacky Welch, Donnie Welch, Ricky Welch, and Randy Welch all of Bardstown.  7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild also survive.

Funeral services will be 2;00pm Sunday January 23rd,2011 at the Cox’s Creek Baptist church with burial in St. Gregory Church Cemetery.  Bro. Jim Bratcher will be officiating the service. Visitation will be Saturday Jan. 22nd from Noon-8pm and after 9;00am Sunday
 

 

Todd David Wallace, 56

Todd David Wallace age 56 passed away January 18, 2011 at his residence in Shepherdsville.  He was a native of Oswego, New York, a retired school teacher for the Archdiocese of Louisville having taught at St. Thomas, St. Dominic and St. Paul school systems, he was also a substitute teacher for the Nelson Co. School Board.  He was an Army Veteran and a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his father William Philip Wallace.

He is survived by his wife Sandra:”Sandy” Williams Wallace of Shepherdsville, his son Russ Wallace of Shepherdsville, 2 daughters Maria Wallace of Lexington and Taylor Wallace of Shepherdsville, his mother Sally Fry Cronk of Oswego, NY., 3 sisters: Jean Syrell of Oswego, NY, Maria Alabiso of Atlanta, GA., Ann Wallace of Oswego,NY., and 5 brothers: Jeff Wallace of Oswego,NY., Scott Wallace of Houston, TX., Jim Wallace of Oswego,NY., Will Wallace of Dallas,TX., and Gary Cronk of Oswego, New York.

A Bardstown resident Mr. Samuel  Leon Sandusky age 60 passed away Saturday at his residence.  He was a native of Casey Co. Robert Anthony "Buddy" Murphy, 65

A Bardstown resident ;Mr Robert Anthony”Buddy” Murphy age 65 passed away Thursday at  his residence.  He was a native of Nelson County, former employee of Nukote International, Owens-Ilinois, and Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co.,and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents John Lester and Mary Catherine Nally Murphy and his son Timmy Murphy.  He is survived by his wife Marilyn DeVires Murphy, one daughter Renae Lewis of Bardstown, 7 sisters: Mary Alice Brown, Elizabeth Bell, Mary Catherine Inman, Brenda Foster, Monnie Spalding all of Bardstown, Shirley Phillips of Allendale MI, Nancy Festervan of Elizabethtown, KY., 2 brothers Tommy Murphy of Bardstown and Bert Murphy of Bloomfield, 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild also survive.

Ancil Lee Watson Sr., 69

A Bardstown resident Mr. Ancil Lee Watson Sr., age 69 passed December 31, 2010 in Bardstown.  He was a native of Bardstown, a retired employee of Owens Illinois, also worked for South Bardstown Rock Quarry and Ellis Wrecking.  He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church, the Whiskey City Cruisers and an Army Veteran and a member the National Guard. He is preceded in death by his parents Steve Thomas Sr. & Ethel Christine Muncy Watson, and 2 sisters Rita & Fredia Watson.

He is survived by his wife Linda Geraldine Pritchard Watson of Bardstown, 2 sons Ancil Lee(Julie)Watson Jr., Christopher Scott(Anna) Watson both of Bardstown, his daughter Deborah Lynn Litsey of Bardstown, 4 brothers: Steve Thomas Watson Jr, Vernon Watson, Ricky  Wayne Watson and Ronnie Watson all of Bardstown, 3 sisters: Anna Rose Crenshaw, Beverly Jean Lewis and Carolyn Nancy Watson all of Bardstown.  He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Bardstown resident Mr. James William”Bear” Smith Jr., age 63 passed away Friday December 31, 2010 at his residence.  He was a native of Marion County, retired from Jim Beam Distillery and  a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents James William Sr.and Mary Theresa Smith and a brother Charlie Smith.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Barnes Smith of Bardstown.

Ann Eleanora Gill, 86

A Bardstown resident Mrs. Ann Eleanora Gill age 86 passed away Friday December 24, 2010 in Colonial Health and Rehab in Bardstown. She was the former Ann Eleanora Roby a native of Nelson County, a retired employee of Barton Brands Limited LTD, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Gill, her parents Lee and Anna Mae Lutes Roby, a daughter Shaun Marie Ryan, a sister Stella Roby, and five brothers, William P., Leo, Felix, Marion and Hillary Roby. She is survived by a daughter Leann (Billy) Roby of Bardstown, a sister Helen Marie Roby of Bardstown, Two grandchildren Sean (Codi) Ryan and Linsay Nicole Roby. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday December 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. A Bardstown resident Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Spalding Bowling age 90 passed away Wednesday December 15, 2010 in Louisville. She was a native of Nelson County, a former employee of the Old Bardstown Sewing Factory, Hostess at Kurtz Restaurant and clerk at the old Key Market.  She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served on the bereavement committee, was an Eucharistic Minister and also worked the elections polls for several years.  She is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Bowling, son James A.”butch” Bowling, grandchildren James Mark Bowling and Deisha Bowling, brother Charles Spalding, and sisters Sr. Cordelia Spalding, O.S.U.M.S.J., Emily Spalding and Margaret Balcher.

She is survived by daughters: Doris(Tony) Bullock of Shepherdsville, Linda Wolf of Bardstown, and Mary Helen(Dave) Roberts of Advance, NC., 5 sons: Tommy Bowling, Bobby(Joan)Bowling and Johnny(Gail) Bowling all of Bardstown, Kenny(Rosemary) Bowling of Lawrenceburg, and Charlie(Debbie) Bowling of Ashland, KY., her sister Lucy Simpson of Bardstown, and her brother Leo Spalding of Bardstown.  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

James R "Buddy" Humphrey, 76

A Cox’s Creek resident Mr. James R.”Buddy” Humphrey age 76 passed away Thursday December 16, 2010 at his residence.  He was a native of Nelson County, retired from Armor Foods in Louisville as a butcher, a member of Moose Lodge #2408, the American Legion Post #121 and of the Catholic faith and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is preceded in death by his son: James David Humphrey,  parents: James Lillard and Bonnie Bell Lafollette Humphrey,  and his brothers  Leo & James Curtis Humphrey.

He is survived by his wife Norma Jean Hatfield Humphrey, sons: Ronald Glenn of New Haven, Michael Ray Humphrey of Shepherdsville, daughters: Vicky Ann Hagan of Loretto, and Crystal Summitt of Radcliff, his sister Helen Auberry of Shepherdsville, his brothers: Edgar Eugene Humphrey of Barren County, Kenneth Ray Humphrey of Cox’s Creek.  He is also survived by 9 stepchildren, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Mr. William Powers Curtsinger, 89

A Bardstown resident Mr. William Powers Curtsinger age 89 passed Friday November 19, 2010 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.  He was a native of Nelson County, a retired farmer and self employed mechanic and had received a Doctor of Motors Degree and of the Baptist faith. He loved to play the guitar and old time country music.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Leslie Thomas & Clevie Alice Shields Curtsinger, also 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

He is survived by 3 sisters  Martha Kelly, Alice Curtsinger and Betty(Thomas) Hellard all of Elizabethtown. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday November 23, 2010 at 11;00am from the Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home with Bro. Isaac Ferguson officiating.  Burial will be at Cox’s Creek Baptist church Cemetery.  Friends may kindly call Monday from 5:00-8:00pm
 

 

Virginia Burr Snider, 81

A Bardstown resident Virginia Burr Snider age 81 passed away Friday November 19, 210 at Flaget Memorial Hospital.  She was the former Virginia Collins, a homemaker and a native of Nelson County.  She was a retired LPN for Flaget Memorial Hospital with 22 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Snider, her parents John and Lillian Humphrey Collins, and a brother Theodore Collins.

She is survived by two daughters Lillian Jane Snider of Bardstown and Jonye Carol(Tim) Nix of Louisville, a son Glenn(Gayle) Snider of Mansfield, Ohio, a sister Juanita Green Parrott of Bardstown and a brother Leon Collins of Bloomfield,  She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A prayer service will be 6:00pm Sunday at Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Chapel.

A private family memorial will be at a later date.  Visitation is 2-6pm Sunday at the funeral home.
